    This car is now on ebay for $36k:
    Ferrari Other 400i 2 2 GT | eBay

    He shows it as a 1980 in the heading, but a 1982 in the text. With that serial number (#36879) I'd guess its a 1981 as mine is a 1982 with #40555.

    It doesn't sell for $36K, so the price is raised to $37.5K? Is that how the market works?

    of course. raising the price leaves more room for negotiation - and the buyer scraping off $1K is happy.

    Not to mention that a higher asking price indicates overwhelming demand for the product so that potential buyers understand that they are being asked to buy a scarce commodity (albeit more than 365 GTB Daytonas that sell for 20X the price or more) and therefore such scarcity means added value.
