What does everyone think of the new 812 wheel shape? Personally not a fan, but what do you think? Picture Below: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have it on the Lusso, or at least it seems the same... from pictures not great but in person I really like it and ergonomically gives you the feeling like you can toss the car around easily
I think this is one of those things you actually have to sit behind and drive to tell whether its good or not. I can tell you my favorite steering wheel is on the 458 Speciale. My 2nd favorite is the F12 and then the FF. I don't think they are going to make a wheel whose shape won't function right. But this can also be personal preference.
Agree - really like my Speciale wheel and dont mind the F12 either. I have a similar wheel (to the 812) in my R8 and I quite like it (although in the R8 its a bit big IMO)
IMO the 458/F12/FF era is the best wheel. This one seems more like a toy/gimmick. The turn buttons are the opposite of effortless, the mannetino feels cheap, the horn is centered for normal people, the fonts are ugly it's just busy.
It would have made more sense to put the indicator switches/buttons where the horn buttons were on the FF and had little LED lights on the wheel to show it is actually on. Leave the horn button on the centre and get rid of those over sized, awkward to use toggle levers.
I think all those look completely different with carbon (its must have option imo). But i'll take the 458/F12/FF, those are the best steering wheels.
What about the new LED design? I believe the new wheel features two more shift lights and in a different color!
I have just found a picture of the 812 wheel with the carbon steering wheel. I think that the wheel looks soo much better with the carbon option. I have made my own car in the configurator and it looks much better in carbon. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not normally a fan of carbon wheels but it looks like a 'must' on this one. It transforms the wheel. Very nice.
Here's another I took at Geneva. I thought it was very nice to look at and hold. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Side by side for better comparison, on top the F12b steering wheel and below the one of the 812. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The new rim shape looks more 'modern' and more elegant to my eye. The changes to the center -- the slight changes to the button locations, the new turn indicators (bidirectionally operable) , the addition of the wiper speed control dial, and redesigned headlight/flasher button, along with the slightly larger view to the instrument binnacle afforded by the smaller air bag are done to improve usability. (I remember how people complained about the difficulty they had getting accustomed to the control buttons on the old wheel. I wonder if they have ever seen the steering wheel of the Ferrari F-1 car?) The new 812 bi-color, red to blue, LEDs shift lights complete the change to a more updated and improved steering wheel. But Ferrari wasn't the first to try some new ideas. Just have a look at some of these steering wheels. Once you do, I think you will agree that Ferrari does it better. https://www.carthrottle.com/post/9-bizarre-steering-wheels-that-are-both-bonkers-and-brilliant/
The F12B wheel looks good in both standard and carbon spec. 812 has to be carbon IMO. Cant digest the standard look.
I like the horn being where it should be. It’s hard in the heat of battle to remember to push your thumb on the old one. More intuitive to just slam at the middle of the wheel should it be necessary.
I am glad they have moved the horn back the middle. So question/observation. I have always built my f cars with the carbon driver zone and they all have a meaty grip to them. But...I didn’t add it to my roma and the upper Part of the wheel actually feels small...the diameter. Is this the case on all wheels that don’t have the carbon or is it something to do with the steering wheel on the sf90/Roma?
