I was driving home this afternoon and noticed the check engine light on in my 812 GTS. At a light, I turned the engine off and waited and then restarted. Check engine light was still on with a message saying Engine Control System Failure--Go to dealer.

    Anyone know what this means?

Probably that you should try again with a well charged battery. Or a new battery. If it doesnt go away then ask the dealer.

I agree, battery seems most likely culprit.

Did you recently fuel up? I had the same messages on my California when I first bought it. Turns out that the fuel call was loose.

The car is always attached to the charger when parked in my garage. The light on the trickler was green this morning but I got the same Engine Control Failure message. I will call the dealer tomorrow.

I got this on my F12 when it had some dodgy fuel and was running lean

Interesting questions/comments about fuel. I gassed up on Thursday and for the first time ever (for me) the gas pump lock didn't click off and gas started spilling. Thankfully I was there and kept the spillage to a minimum.

In one case, I turned off car, unscrewed the gas cap and then retightened it. CEL disappeared. In another case, tried the same thing, no dice. IIRC, there's a specific error code for EVAP error. For peace of mind, I'd take it into dealer to have them check for error codes, battery fitness, etc...T

I had the car towed to the dealership today. Probably overkill but covered under warranty with the check engine light.

Hopefully, I get it later this week.

Had the car towed to the dealer earlier this week. Haven't received an update yet.

Have been dealing with the exact same thing. Car went into dealer to asses and the warning was gone. Got the car back and next day showed again. I left in the charger for over two weeks (traveling) and it’s gone. Been driving a bunch and hasn’t shown up. My bet at 90% is battery charge. Is it always in the trickle charger?

edit…just read the whole string and see you have on a charger. Maybe it is the fuel. Unfortunately we can’t do the fuel cap trick as there isn’t one. Maybe I just ran some bad gas out and it was a coincidence. Do you have a valve controller on yours?

    My guesses:

    * battery voltage- sometimes you get a bad battery, its happened to me often since the great recession

    * in a car with an older gas cap, it not being put back securely could have caused this, but I wonder if the newer cap less setup might be at fault

    * problem with cat convertor/ sensor

Good move to get it checked, better than finding yourself stuck, or worse.

I think if you want to give the computer a bit of a reset, turn off the car, then lock it, then wait something like 10 minutes, then try again. My F12b would not make any sound from the stereo every once in a while. Id start off, not bother to listen to the radio as Im listening to the engine, now Im on my way, want to hear some tunes, and no sound. Pull over, do the above, that always resolved it.

Please keep us posted on what you find out. Would love to know if it happens again. I was pulled out of town unexpectedly and left mine off the charger for a week. I will take it for a spin today and see if it shows up

I had that on my 458- was one of the secondary air valves clogged up- Apparently fairly common on 458s- not sure about 812s - I would imagine a myriad of things could trigger that- majority are minor and simple- Dealer can check codes and diagnose quickly- Hope all is well- Cheers

I don't think the check engine light will be a big deal but they can't work on the car until getting permission from Ferrari NA. I have been experiencing a problem with the alarm since I picked the car up. About 30 seconds after I lock the car, the car alarm goes off. It happens every time and is super annoying as you might imagine. My dealership had to contact Ferrari NA about this because they don't have the schematics for the alarm sensors yet. Ferrari NA are getting the information together but the protocol is to halt all work on the car until the dealership gets the go ahead from corporate.

Got the same recently in my 2022 and it's a Charcoal Canister that had to be replaced. This STOP and GO nonsense along with all of the emission requirements is making these cars super sensitive. H2O sensors could be another reason. Neither are critical but must be addressed and replaced.

It’s my turn now with my 812 GTS. I had the same error message. I’m going to check tomorrow if it’s gone. If not, I am taking it to the dealer. I have a brand-new battery, and the car is always on the trickle charger. The OEM battery was replaced because it died, and even though the car had less than 1K miles and not even a year from the manufacturing date, it was not covered under warranty. According to the dealer, the car must be driven 6k miles annually to guarantee the battery. Nonsense

Get one of those code readers. No way to know what a generic CEL means, it can be one of the hundreds specific faults. No way forum can say. Its like going to a doctor and saying I dont feel well and expecting a diagnosis:)
