80's 328 vs 911 cabrio- classic chase scene

Yes great car chase. Second best after Bullitt. But it's not a 328, but a 308.

I went to see that movie when I was 16 just to see that scene.

 

I'm so lucky to have my 3.2 Targa and my 308.

 

And I seem to recall(?) - but I may be wrong on this - that we discussed it in details a few years back and that someone among us said that the engine of the 308 has been overdubbed by a V12, if my memory serves me well?

(P.S: I like all the actors in "against all odds", but as an amateur of film noir, I have to say that it does not match the brillance of the original one: "Out of the past", J. Tourneur, 1947)

Well, it certainly isn't a V8 we hear in the clip. Actually, it's kind of funny how much "sound failiures" one can hear/spot in movies. I saw a movie the other day in which a medium-sized 2-stroke outboard engine on a speedboat was overdubbed by the dark brown "Chevy-V8" roar. Also a very high-revving "japanese 4 cilinder screamer" (12.000+ RPM) overdubbed on a Moto Guzzi V2 was quite funny..

 

I have the same red '83 911 SC Cab and a 308 GTS QV, but not black. It's red too. So I can almost duplicate the scene. And I almost forgot, I have a husky dog too.

 

I never thought it sounded like anything other than a 308. I had it on a VHS tape with a ton of other select 308 scenes from TV (I still have the tape - 6 hours worth of this type of thing I collected over many years back in the 80's). I watched it about 1000 times.

I need to see it again and pay attention, this time as an owner of the same black QV for almost 20 years.

 

Well...I know of a certain "Dr Tommy Cosgrove" who, on September 19th, 2013 (Post #29 in the thread enclosed hereunder) said the sound was from a 365 GTC4...just saying...in good spirit...

So funny you brought that up, as when I openned the thread and realized it was an "Against All Odds" thread, I immediately thought about how "Out of the Past" is one of the very best of the Noir genre. Absolutley love that movie! Time to watch it again tonight...

Ah, they don't make movies like this one anymore: a young Kirk Douglas (he was 31; just had his 99th birthday in December this year); Robert Mitchum more "Mitchumesque" than ever and Jane Greer...plus a dark plot with a hero doomed from the start, what more can you ask for?

I was referring to the Lambo in Cannonball Run and the Miami Vice Daytona fakey do. I have always heard those were from a C/4. No proof. Just what I have been told over the years.

Wow that's actually a really well choreographed scene! I thought they might be undercranking in the more dangerous bits but there's none that I can see. They are however using a V12 Lambo Countach soundtrack for the Ferrari damn it. It's the same soundbite used in the beginning of the Cannon Ball Run. Those who watch Magnum PI will know they use a Lambo engine sound in that also.

Sometimes it doesn't sound the way it suppose to because they edit the sound in the studio.

 

I guess that SC is an automatic because I didn't see JB shift once!

 

Watch the episode "Don't Say Goodbye" from season one. That chase scene is pure carbed 308 Ferrari.
