This 1977 Ferrari 512 BB is one of 929 carbureted examples produced between 1976 and 1981. The car is powered by a 4.9-liter F102B flat-12 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and is finished in red over black leather upholstery. Features include a limited-slip differential, fog lights, center-lock 15″ Cromodora alloy wheels, Daytona-style seats, air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo, and a gated shifter. An engine-out service was performed in 2015 and a two-year interior refurbishment was completed in 2018. This 512 BB was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023 and is now offered in New York with service records, a tool kit, a work light, and Vermont registration.

The Berlinetta Boxer model was styled by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti and was introduced at the 1971 Turin Auto Show. The car features a steel-paneled cabin section paired with a tubular chassis. Aluminum is incorporated for the front and rear clamshells and door panels, while the lower panels are fiberglass. The cars were not officially offered in the US and were imported and federalized in-period via the gray market.

This example is finished in red and features black lower body panels, pop-up headlights, fog lights, a front spoiler, NACA side ducts, quad exhaust outlets, and a black rear high-mount spoiler and engine lid trim. Cracks, chips, and blemishes around the exterior are shown up close in photos provided below.

Center-lock 15″ Cromodora wheels are mounted with 215/70 front and 225/70 rear Michelin XWX tires showing date codes from 2014. The suspension system incorporates coil springs and anti-roll bars all around with a double coilover setup out back, and stopping power is provided by disc brakes at each corner. The Koni shocks were rebuilt in 2017, and replacement brake hoses were installed along with overhauled brake calipers in 2020.

The cabin underwent a two-year refurbishment completed in 2018 which features Daytona-style bucket seats reupholstered in black leather that extends to the center console and dashboard. Amenities include a gated dogleg shifter, air conditioning, a Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo, and power windows. The glovebox door upholstery is loose.

The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Veglia instrumentation including a 330-km/h speedometer and a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline as well as auxiliary gauges that extend to the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 28k kilometers (~17k miles), approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.9-liter F102B flat-12 features aluminum construction, dual overhead camshafts per bank, dry-sump lubrication, and quad triple-barrel Weber carburetors to produce a factory-rated 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. A March 2015 engine-out service is highlighted in invoices provided below and included performing a timing belt service, rebuilding the carburetors and water pump, installing custom camshaft pulleys, refinishing exhaust components, and overhauling the ignition and fuel systems. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The clutch components were replaced and the clutch hydraulic system was overhauled in March 2015. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery below.

The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its registration.

Good day Gentlemen,

I posted my thoughts on the reasons for the sale price in the Bat comments area, and will post them here as well.

The car looks to be a nice driver level car, but is missing a few items (Books, tools, period correct steering wheel, incorrect gas cap, non factory exhaust)l and has needs. For example the car is somewhat due for an engine out service + whatever else is needing attention, some slight attention to some interior items, and possibly some paint and body efforts. The latter is highly variable and depends upon the quality level the owner wishes. Secondly, there is still evidence of Federalization (note the door jamb plates which could still cover the non factory door crash bars, etc), and there could be other items. Lastly, for many areas it is now the end or very close to end of the season and so the demand will be somewhat less than at the beginning or during peak season. All of the above does not detract from this car, but could very well indicate the final sale price.

The books, tools, and correct steering wheel seem minor until you try and find them. Books, Pouch, etc can easily range from $2K to $5K, tool case and tools... $2K to $5K, and the Steering wheel around $1K. Just these alone can add another $5K to $11K. They are not really needed, but they are nice to have and do add value to the car. The non factory exhaust... the current one sounds great, but again someone may want a factory one or one from the usual sources and so this can add $5K to $10K. Engine Out service... easily $5K and up. Paint and body... well... as I said, highly variable and totally dependent on the owner and whether or not they want all Federalization mods removed.

I think it is fair price and if anything could easily be enjoyed as is except for doing the immediate service needs (e.g. engine out). That said, I am curious why the Seller did not perform the engine out themselves.

Nice summation. I agree the service should have been done. The market rewards that. As these cars age, books, tools original exhaust etc become more important to buyers.
It also has 9 year old tires and a reupholstery job performed by a not terribly talented upholsterer. In a few of the photos it looks as if there is trouble brewing under the current layer of paint meaning when it gets bad enough it will need to be stripped.
Dont follow BB prices but this was deserving of considerably below the high water mark.
