Ladies and Gentlemen; Mark your calendars for December the 11th as that is the date for our 6th annual D/FW Toy Run. Carolyn and I have begun the plans. It will include great roads, cars, people and most of all a great cause. For 5 years we have helped families and groups make Christmas better and I hope to make this one the best one yet. So please make sure that you can find some time to participate in this years event.
Crossing fingers hoping to make it this year. Tired of having to cross fingers hoping to make it every year.
As usual the first group we talked to were not interested in our donation!!!!! It seems like every year it gets harder and harder to give these toys away. However, we did make contact with a group today and they are very excited. So Carolyn and I will meet with them next week to iron out a couple of details and make sure that they have enough room for all of the vehicles. Again make sure that you mark your calendars for the 11th of December for this event. We will keep you posted on the progress but things are falling into place very quickly.
Looking forward to it, and to seeing many folks from last year. I'll be in my 328 6-speed manual shift, but not a Ferrari. Bought it this summer. It's a BMW E92 328i coupe, and has the N52 2996cc I6, nice motor, and I have read that it is the lightest 6cyl. currently in production. It has the sport pkg, (so the governor is factory adjusted to 150). I would not mind trading my 328i for a clean 328GTB ,although the BMW sure is cheaper to run I think. I believe my friend with a Lighting Blue Viggen is planning on making it and maybe a few others. Thank you Don and Carolyn and regards to everyone, R.S.
After the Nationwide race Carolyn and I boarded the Ferrari Badged Explorer and did some recon of the proposed area. Immediately across from the people who will receive the toy contribution is a gigantic parking lot that will easily accomodate our group. We then went to the restaurant and talked to the owner and he agreed to block the front of his parking lot and the back room for us so that is accomplished. Things appear to be falling in place pretty quickly so we can now work on the roads. We will meet with the people who are receiving the toys this coming week to iron out some details. I will get some ideas of ages, groups and wishes and post them as soon as we return from this meeting. I don't know if we can get a Police escort to the drop area, BUT you guys know me so I will try. I am looking for 80 to 100 cars this year piloted by RESPONSIBLE drivers.
is this an FCA event, is there any age limit for the driver, i had a blast last year i was proud of me 4 cylinder")
What, no WRX or Saab 9-3 drivers need apply?? I nearly got squished between those two last year!! My hope is for a run like the Stradi di Autunno!! Thanks Don and Carolyn for putting this together!!!!!!
This event does NOT require FCA membership although the DFW chapter of the Ferrari Club of America will sponsor it. So this is an open event to all car affectionados in the DFW area. This will be a rain or shine event and I am really promoting this event heavily through the dealers and car clubs in the DFW area. If you sign up through F-Chat just make sure that you can make the event. Last year we had approx. 152 say that they would show up so I printed 160 15 page maps and gave out 84. The result is that I have an inordinate amount of scratch paper still remaining from last year. I do not intend to repeat that problem. This weekend we will start running the roads to see what is available. I will have the start location in a couple of days and will make that post when that is put in place. Things seem to be falling into place pretty quickly and that sometimes is a good thing. I hope to have some suggestions of 'needed items' by the end of this week and will post that as soon as I know. Now we just need good weather.
Yesterday, Carolyn, the dog and myself piled into the Ferrari Badged Explorer and headed out with maps in hand. We ran two potential routes and plotted out a third. We will try to get the highway driving down to a minimum but I can tell you now that is still going to be a fair amount of the run. With the way Dallas and it's suburbs are expanding there is just no getting around it. We did find some interesting roads and some uninspiring ones so we will eliminate the latter next week. I did want everyone to remember that, as per usual, we will have a split donation the toys will go to one group and any cash or check donations will go to the Collin County Children's Advocate.. If you decide to contribute a check make sure it is made out to them. I will have additional information about toy needs/requests tomorrow. Thanks to all of you who are helping and intending to join us for this event.
Hi Don. Count me in as I checked the schedule for December and that Saturday is open. I know the ICCS posted this on their schedule and I posted it on the Alfa BB under the Lone Star Chapter of AROC section. Hopefully some more Italian car owners will show up. Thanks for putting this together and let me know if you need any volunteers for registration or what not. Jeff Alfa 164 LS
