I have to admit I am surprised at how well the Vipers are doing so far.

What's with the penalties? Is this racing or what? They have to let these guys drive and race each other. When they do, touching occurs. Penalties should be saved for REALLY boneheaded moves, not good, hard racing.

Joker I was just about to post the same. Some of them I understand but the second penalty for the muscle milk car and the penalty just given to Westbrook are absolutely ridiculous. They say they are doing it to get used to the future rules, they are killing the grand-am races the same way, but I mean come on it isn't always the guy who is passing's fault.

I disagree. I've worked with Paul Walter before and I think he's just calling the contact more after it's been too loosely called for too long. Getting people's heads straight. Culture change, whatever you want to call it. Have you seen Lally's rant after COTA?

There is no incident unless there is another car overtaking...

the problems I see with the way this race is being called are:

-penalties for what is just normal multi-class racing cluster***s, mainly into the corner.

-contact where both parties are equally guilty (i.e. the ESM and Muscle Milk contact), but only one got penalized.

I'm alway surprised we don't see more mechanical failures like that at Sebring.

This is more to the point I was trying to make. With different classes the rule of thumb is hold your line not dive bomb across and to me that's what's happening more often than not. Both parties are racing hard and it shouldn't be a penalty but if it must be "avoidable contact" can be both cars.

the most reliable car i every owned. my only effort at really putting the car at it's limit was at 'Tail of the Dragon'. 100+turns in 13 miles, all up hill with no place for error. first was rarely used. 2 and sometimes 3(not often) rpm at 3-6,000 the whole time. tires complaining the entire time. Viper is a real hand full and heavy but has good feed back. try that with my 550 ferrari. the shop would be first stop, if it finished.

I'm pretty disappointed with the disjointed SPEED coverage (Speed2 doesn't play nice with Verizon internet for some reason, so I've been watching Justin's TV too)
