The fuel pump is rigidly attached to the cover and is not going to be banging around.
Replaced the rear ball jonts upper and lower, greased all drop links, tie rid ends and front ball joints. Made some improvement but still causing an issue.
What part would you consider the upper strut mount? Not your typical shock with the rubber bushing on the top. #8 & #12 look to be metal type plates. #9 & #13 look to be something that could wear out. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thread revival... Any update on this? Did you end up replacing the upper shock mounts? I have a 2008 612 with 29k miles. I've been having the same issue you described with loud clunking at low speeds while things are much better at higher speed. I would say mine isn't just the rear though. I just had the upper and lower ball joints replaced and picked the car up yesterday. It is a bit better (and the old joints did have play in them) but the low speed noise/clunking is still an issue. The tech has looked at sway bar links, looked for other loose parts, looked for leaks from the shocks, etc. and all else seems to be OK. We are trying to brainstorm if it is the upper shock mount (none available in US), the lower shock mount/joint (4 available in US), or if there is an issue in the shocks that despite there being no leaks. Any help today would be appreciated as the shop is 5 hours from home and I haven't decided whether to take the car with me or leave it with the shop. On a related note does anyone know of a place that rebuilds 612 shocks or otherwise know how to address shocks cost-effectively? Thanks in advance.
I know you said they were checked, but the only thing I can think of is double check the bushings in the sway bars.
I have similiar issues with my 612 2007. When i take the car out of my garage i can hear a sound similar to a honking from the rear when driving over a small bump. Seem to come somewhere from the suspension or shocks. It disappears after a few kms. Also i feel that with low speeds the car seems to be very hard. I had a 911 before with much more sportive suspension but that one was not that hard. Further the car seem to slip a bit to right side when i drive over a sewer cover with the right rear wheel even i drive straight and streets are dry. Any similar observations by anyone? My ‘08 OTO makes an awful squawk over bumps for the first mile or so if it has been sitting for a week or more. It doesn’t ride “hard” and the noise goes away quickly. I have looked everywhere I know to look and can’t find anything loose. I have quit worrying about it.
Mine definitely has something going on that I can’t ignore. I get in my 550 (29k mi) and 599 (10k mi) and they’re fine over the same bumps. I get in 612 (28k mi) and the suspension is rough and loud. I ended up leaving my car with the tech and he’s going to source upper and lower shock mounts and hopefully that’ll do it. Hate to throw parts at it but not sure what else to do.
I have experienced the same rough, jarring ride at low speeds in my 599, and all shocks are dry and tie rods and ball joints fine.
Found it!! A marble. In the ashtray. https://mcusercontent.com/b228305916af0e4aea65c2d87/images/29241222-3113-4e53-affd-56cbc87a8f43.jpg
Not yet. Plan to bring the car to the garage end of march Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Not solved. I just replaced all the ball joints and it is still loud and rough as hell. I’m starting to think engine and transmission mounts need to be explored since suspension parts appear to be fine yet these issues persist.
Engine and trans mounts are oil filled; you'll tell if they're done as they start to prolapse and the rubber part will feel squishy rather than firm.
Doubt the shocks are shot. Very tough. Has she been lowered? That can get the shocks out of their optimum operating range.
It's the flippin' 20's. Beautiful, but a rough ride to me. Went from 997TT with 19's to one with 20's. Ugh. Got out of my wife's audi and into an Rs7, same thing. But I didn't buy the RS7 for comfort
