Taz asked and answered this question exactly 5 years ago (I did a search of the Technical Q&A forum). Unfortunately it was for the earlier key type. I'm picking up my 2008 612 on Friday. The keys are working, but I like to keep a spare fresh battery in the car. I know it is a watch battery, but can anyone tell me the type/size?

I downloaded the manual from ferraridatabase. It tells you how to change the battery, but incredibly neglects to tell you the replacement size.

I need to replace mine as well, so this is timely.

With the instructions how to change the battery, when you get the car, just open the key and see what battery is in there...

I had to chuckle when I read your response. Of course you are right, and this occurred to me before I searched the forums here and posted this thread. My concern was either breaking or damaging the key while prying it open, or that too many openings of the case eventually wears it out.

As you can see by Taz's thread, he had the same fear. So I'm not alone!

Whew, that is an old one. Have probably exchanged 100 batteries in 10+ fob sets fobs since then and wrote a document on how to program the alarm ECUs on the old system to accept new sets of fobs.

For the F430, the battery is a CR 1220, which should be the same for the 612.

I followed the advice in the other thread and took the key to Radio Shack. We opened it up on the spot.

It takes two little round lithium batteries-- I didn't write the number down.

The batteries (notice I use the plural) for the 612 key are indeed CR 1220. The key takes two (2) CR 1220 in tandem.

Paul- Just like a Mercedes, except they take two 1225s.
