I just purchased a 2009 612 OTO with the stock Bose head unit. I have an iPhone 6, as well as the current nano and shuffle, and NONE are recognized by the system. Is there a setting on the system to "search" for the apple device? I CAN find the iPhone via bluetooth and the phone call function DOES work.

I searched many threads on the subject, but most are several years old referencing iPhone 3Gs's and such so I thought I would open up the topic again as there may have been firmware updates I am unaware of.

I can't play ANYTHING off my iPhone and will be driving it almost 10 hours to get home Sun night. I really want it working by then. Can anyone answer the following:

    - is there a firmware unit for the stock unit that fixes this? How do I know what firmware version I am on at present? Do I have to go to a dealer to do that or can someone send me the file to load via the front USB port?
    - is there an AUX port anywhere
    - is it better to get a bluetooth adapter that allows bluetooth music and just use the workaround? I would prefer to have the artist/song/art appear but beggars can't be choosers haha

Might be good to consolidate a bunch of the other threads on this topic to keep it current as newer apple devices evolve (like my apple watch)! :D

There's a reasonably current thread on new Ferrari radio offerings for older cars and I think someone mentioned the iPhone 6 won't work while the previous models will in fact work

I just got my '10 car and I've yet to try to figure out the radio, so I'll be watching this thread as well Eric

Again Good Luck with your new Gorgeous acquisition ;)

I haven't sorted my unit out either, but I was able to get it to recognize an iphone 5, but not a 6

Thanks Moe. It's turned out to be a great find. Great chatting w you.

Dave - at this point I'd be fine with ANY  product I could connect since I can dump my iTunes on whatever. I'd buy a used 5 or iPod if I knew it would work. What year is your 612?

check to see if you have an ipod connector in the little leather slot in the glove box - that may be the easiest way to get some music

I have that, but I haven't used it yet

I plan on diving into this thing more this weekend so I'll let you know if I discover any "pearls"

The iPod connection was an option. As Dave.O pointed out, it's in a little slot in the glove box. I believe, but have not had much success yet, that you can buy a bluetooth audio adapter which will plug into that connector, and allow you to stream music via bluetooth.

However, the one I tried didn't work-- but there are lots of others on the market.

I think there are also adapters which will turn that into an aux input, but again, I haven't looked that hard.

An alternative, which I have considered myself, is to buy a refurbished iPod classic, sync it with my iTunes library, and just leave it in there permanently. The iPod interface works great with the iPod Classic, and you could have all the music you want. The only real downside to this is if you have too many devices on your iTunes account (for DRM purposes). This is a bit of an issue for me, although something I could sort out if I cared enough.

If you don't have the iPod, then I think there is probably a way to do an aux connection, but it might take a little bit of work.

    Hello,

That is exactly what I do. I use one iPod nano on the iPod port inside the glove box. At the same time, I pair my iPhone 5s with the Bose to do phone calls.

One note though: the iPod port can't charge my iPod nano battery...I wonder why...it's the downside for a nevertheless fair sound system .

I don't think this $364k car has the iPod option :crying: unless it was listed in that $12k of OTHER OPTIONS.

Can you post a pic of your glove box? I'm almost sure it doesn't

What is the purpose of the USB port on the lower right side of the system? Will it recognize an older iPod? Will it recognize mp3 or wma files on a USB drive? I am about to try...

I wish there was a simple firmware update that would at LEAST just allow bluetooth audio via the already paired iPhone. Would save me ALL of the hassle and be the cleanest solution

It charges my iPhone 5S! Apple stuff is really finicky about charging. I don't think my iPhone 4 would charge on it, weirdly enough.

I don't have a picture, sorry. Open the glove compartment and feel along the bottom. If it has the iPod option, it will have a little leather pocket, and in the pocket will be an older generation iPod connector. The pocket might even be on the inside of the glove compartment door? Anyway, you connect the ipod to the connector and put it in the pocket.

I've never tried a USB drive with it, but it might well recognize it. The car has a hard drive which can store music from CDs (or, maybe, USB drives?). Unfortunately, it uses some uncompressed format, so it doesn't store nearly as many as I would think it could.

It also should have XM, although you'd need to enable that.

If it doesn't have the iPod option, I would think either the dealer or a good car stereo guy could rig up an aux input. After all, the iPod connection plugs into something. It may even have one buried back there somewhere under the dash.

Does anyone know if a car that doesn't have the iPod option has an aux port on the head unit that my local car stereo guy could tap into? Was thinking maybe I could do a Bluetooth audio in to that without any extra wires.

I just traded my '06 612 on a '10. I haven't explored the radio yet. Right now the music is heavily weighted to the rear and I can't even figure out how to find the balance/fader adjustment.

This may be a worthless contribution to this thread, but has anyone tried contacting Bose tech support with some of these questions?

I'm assuming it probably does. Once I get an iPhone 6S or whatever that it won't work with any more, that's going to be my solution.

Or, I think this might work, but I haven't tried it:

Amazon.com : Nyrius Songo Link Wireless Bluetooth Music Receiver 30-pin Apple Speaker Dock Adapter for Audio Streaming iPod, iPhone, iPad, Samsung, Android, HTC, Blackberry, Smartphones, Tablets, Laptops (BR30) : MP3 Players & Accessories

I tried a different one and it didn't work. From the specs, the one I linked should work, but you never know.

The issue is that the Bose unit connects digitally with the iPod. This allows it to download play lists, etc. Most of these bluetooth adapters aren't smart enough to do that, so the car won't talk to it. I think if you can find one which will work with any of the manufacturer-supplied iPod adapters, it should work in the 612. Mercedes, Audi, VW, all made iPod connections back in the day.

I think there are adapters which will do the digital connection (and this one looks like it might be one), but without buying it, there is no way to know.

Per the sister thread to this - it doesn't work on the 612 yet. A fellow member tried to install it and the dealer couldn't make it work :(
