Hi, reading the repair manual of the 599 I see, that there are two different engine types shown.

one is normal and one is called: REDUCED CONSUMPTION ENGINE

    with less fuel consumption.
Can anybody please tell me what the difference is and if it is possible to convert fron one to the other and what has to be done for this?
    Thanks

Kai- Post the page so we know what you are talking about. At engine number 122779, the engine type changed from F140C to F140CB, but not sure why. Similar change was made on the 612 engine from Type F133F to Type F133H.

He probably means F140CE, not CB. F140CE is the GTO engine. F140C is in the 599GTB.

In this case, Wikipedia is your friend.

John- There are two different engine types for the vanilla 599s, F140C and F140CB. The GTO engine certainly would not have been for reduced fuel consumption.

There are some huge changes between the early 599 Gtb engine and the low fuel consumption engine.

Many parts habe been changed e.g. main bearings, conrods, crankshaft, engine management etc. Also the engine block is different because of the bigger main bearings. I think this perhaps happened due to EU legislative regulations to reduce heavy metall.

How can I recognize the engine with the low fuel consumption?

This is very interesting was completely unaware of this. I would imagine performance would be mostly the same?

Reduced consumption is a software thing and it doesn't make as big a difference as the official figures suggest in real world. I can upgrade/downgrade (taking into account the differences derived from your specific cars original firmware) between both but actually you don't get nothing for nothing so the result is indeed worse performance.

If your worried about a minor difference in mpg in a 599 perhaps you bought the wrong car as in either version they are pretty thirst beasts!! lol

Hence my amusement at this so called "low consumption" engine. I can imagine your software changes can really transform a 599 GTB, if the 360 I experienced is anything to go by!

Hi guys, new member and looking to buy a 599 in europe. Does anyone know when this engine number was introduced exactly (year/month)? Am mostly interested because I read in another thread that its only possible to upgrade the gearbox to HGTE spec from this engine number onwards and I'd like to have that optionality, thanks

    Good info as always.

I , for one, would want the high consumption engine/software. Lol!

Immo- Nope. Cross-reference the parts catalogs and see if you can figure out a VIN/Assembly number for the change. We might be able to help if you have that.
