I wonder if the people here who are dissing the 599's looks even understand the philosophy behind its design. The fact is that the car looks amazing alongside the 550. I really love the design of the 550 but it doesn't look anywhere near as aggressive or masculine as the 599. Actually I don't think it's even fair to compare these two designs since they are so different. The 550 is obviously designed to be more of a beautiful understatement. Now the 599 is designed to be in the same class as the Bentley GT and other elegant GT cars (The Murcielago design doesn't fit into this category BTW) while managing to scream "Ferrari" at the same time! And I think it does just that: it's elegant, classy and cool but totally looks like it's ready for the track anytime. I feel it is a tremendous accomplishment!
Here is a woman's opinion. Do not worry, I do know what the tech specs are all about and I do drive on the track. I have 575M, waiting for 599 and recently ordered Lambo Superleggera (the same one that was shown in New York). They are ALL powerful and drop dead gorgeous. 599 and 575 are not photogenic because of many vertical curves but in person............. I was holding myself from screaming with delight when I saw them in person for the first time. I drove all 3 of them and here is what I can say: each one is the best designed car of it's time. They all incorporate the latest in technology (at the time of conception), body design and efficiency. These cars can not be compared...it is the same as comparing 3 different beautiful women, for you guys, or 3 men for me. They have a different character, different name and a very different personality. Ferraris can be compared with an elegant evening gowns and Lambo is a funky, show your legs, Friday outfit. You will not wear them all at the same time but love wearing each one according to the mood. There is only one way to be satisfied and it is to have them all in your garage and drive according to your daily mood. By the way, you will never need valium again in this case. Congratulations to the once who have one or all of them and good luck to the once who want to have one or all!!!!!!!!!
wow i cant believe how small the 550's brakes look in comparison to the carbon ceramic brakes on the 599! i love the stance of the 599 i think it is beautiful yet i have not seen one in real life. No videos of your drive?
I've seen 2 in person, one right next to a 575. and 355bnut, not slavishly liking a car just because it's a Ferrari is not a bias, its a lack of one.
Well, I don't have your problem of owning them all, but I did own a 550 and to this day feel it is one of the most subtlely beautiful of all modern car designs. I do agree, you can walk by one if its not red and miss it. Not true with the 599. I did not like the pics very much but after seeing the design up close at Monterrey last year and getting to really check it out from all angles, it really grew on me. A. still waiting and hoping for a "group" picture of your cars. How would you describe the driving experience of the 599 relative to the 550/575?
You have the most perfect Ferrari Collection, excellent past examples with present day cars. Any chance of you getting a 288 and an Enzo?
Game $#@%ing over my friend!! What a wonderful and tasteful blend of old and new. Do you ever go brain dead trying to decide which one to drive? I know I would.
Context please, as we are discussing two Ferraris and ones point of view towards each. Anyone who speaks in terms of "hate" an object that clearly does one no harm whatsoever has a bias, a psychotic one! Further to your point, there are many Ferraris I do not at all care for - Enzo, F50, 612 scaglietti, 430. Should I go on?
I wonder why you would bother being on FChat "the Online Ferrari Community". I respect your opinions, I simply don't understand why you choose to post on a forum for enthusiasts of the the things you profess to dislike or not care for.
It's a discussion forum right ? So it's not only about showing your last car and waiting for the billionth post of congrats nice car, but also having people discussing any issue, and design is a known sensible one. Many Ferrari fans tend to think that the 355/456/550 were the last dead-great designs Ferrari brought, while the current always need the excuse, well, it's a Ferrari. It's something that should be accepted and discussed, though it's pretty pointless, but then again, 99 % of all discussions are pointless (faith or not, guns or ban, smoke or ban, shields or not, F-car or L-car etc etc).
I expected more from the venerable Alex Papas... I don't see why you have to like every Ferrari made to be a Ferrari enthusiast, either.
Some things are simply not worth responding to. I made my point earlier and that's all I have to say regarding the topic. As to venerable - now that's something worth debating
Assuming this comment is aimed at me, let me make this clear, your statement is wrong on every level. Firstly I am a total Ferrari enthusiast, ask 'Demigod" who thinks I'm a slave for it. Secondly, this is a thread about the relative merits of the 550/575 and 599 designs. The fact, as I have stated, is that I greatly prefer the 599. Upon being "attacked" as "slavish" by Demigod" I simply answered back in defense to point out that I am anything but "slavish" that there are for me a number of designs I do not particularly care for, including the 550/575 - which many of you love and find beautiful - but is to my eyes a totally mediocre design. Those models I mentioned represent perhaps 7% of the Ferrari catalog that I am aware of. You can assume I greatly admire and love the rest, theyare too numerous to mention. We are after all sharing opinions on Ferrarirs and our preferences which we all agree are purely subjective anyway. Thirdly, while I don't like those designs, I never said those are bad cars, or worse, bad Ferraris. Most are great Ferraris, but not my cup of tea from a design standpoint. I choose to have a 355 and I have a 599 on order - six speed - F1 is for posers!! My wallett has always spoken in sync with my mouth and what anybody thinks about my choice of a drive is irrelevant. I also do not look for validation, and I am sure all of us feel grandly lucky to be Ferrari owners. Lastly, if you can't be critical of something/someone you love than it only proves your insecurity about your feelings towards that something/someone. I feel very comfortable in articulating my criticism. Maybe you can't take it, but I know Ferrari can! Actually I don't think Ferrari gives a f--- what any one of us thinks!
If my choice is to get the car now and be called a "poser" or wait God knows how long for the elusive manual 599 to avoid your demeaning description,I choose the first option....
I reiterate again - I respect your opinion re the cars, but you have the tendency it seems to use inflammatory and not particularly relevant language. Words like "hate" when describing cars - not the right emotion I'm sure. Calling people who choose F1 trannys posers - also personal, without basis and inappropriate. If you prefer a manual shifter then say so. It's hardly necessary to insult those who choose a different transmission. And the one thing I'm absolutely certain of is that I could not care less what you or anyone else says or thinks about me. It's absolutely irrelevant to me what you think. My world will go on as before regardless of your comments, criticism, praise or opinion. I merely comment on what I read. I honestly invest nothing in attempting to change your mind.
Hmmmm, two carefully crafted paragraphs from a guy with all those cars? That must have taken some time...How much you make an hour?
