I reckon she'd start to get on your nerves after the first 388 hours. The remaining 612 hours would be sheer agony.

Well, then I would take the remaining 6000$ and hire a supermodel to lay all over my car, and then yell at her if she scratched it...

Or, I could go through one of those girl scout sponsored car washes which cost $3.00, 2000 times... :)

And I don't mean to poke fun at barabus, because by god if you can afford it then do it! More power to you! But it is over the top....

6K no way boys i do swissol detailing which is same as Dave i use to use zymol which is a great product but the Royale wax contains 70% carnauba wax where as Swissol top wax Divine contains 60% at a cost of £1280.

I am personally using a wax with 55% carnauba wax in it and the finish i am achieving is no different.

People thought the 288GTO couldn't be improved until the F40 came along. Well actually probably no one thought that at all, but I'm sure SpecialistDetailer provides a quality service too.

On the subject of all this talk about waxes etc both SpecialistDetailer and DBValeting need to bear in mind that they're not paying sponsors on here so need to be careful about how far they go in terms of promoting their services.

Personally, speaking as an FChat user as opposed to a mod, I find it extremely useful and interesting to be able to gain an insight into the world of professional valeting and enjoy all the wax related posts

Having experts around who can answer valeting related questions and generally educate us all can only be a good thing and it's great to know that there's people on here that we can employ to help us get the shine we're after

However, putting mod hat on, when the discussion starts getting round to quoting prices for services and self promotion then we're getting into the realms of advertising which isn't allowed by the big boss man.

You just need to bear this in mind really and be a bit canny about what you say and how you say it, and allow your satisfied customers,as Simon has done, to rave about the quality of your work. After all, word of mouth is the best form of advertising there is.

    Yea they are good points.
But as you say Dave has never promoted his service, it really all stemed from me initially contacting him and having him do the business.
This other guy just appeared outa nowhere and said he could do better etc which annoyed me cos he is promoting his business..

He hasn't actually advertised his business. He just said he does detailing and that he thinks he gets just as good (he didn't say better) results with Swissol. I think you may have seen his comment differently if he hadn't used his business name as his login name. But if Dave can do this then why can't he?

I have no idea how good Swissol is, but it is inappropriate to compare it to £6k Zymol Royale. Royale contains 70% white carnauba, Swissol contains 60%. But Zymol Vintage contains 61% and is £1400 (refillable for life for private buyers). That's a fairer comparison. Is the Swissol refillable for life? Doesn't seem to be on their web site (I may have missed it). So in these terms, I'd suggest the Zymol Vintage is much better value, and that's even assuming their shine and longevity are equal.

And as to whether £6k zymol is 'good value' or not, consider this:

Let's say you reach the age of 35 before you can afford to buy a pot of Royale. And let's say you drive until you are 70, and have one car to look after. So you spend 35 years looking after it.

Now, let's say you wax your car once every three months. This seems to be about right given stuff I've read here and there about keeping it topped up. So you wax over the lifetime of the vehicle 35*4=140 times. (blimey, I'm tired just reading that).

Now, a pot of Royale does, let's say (I think Dave said this somewhere earlier), about 70 applications to the average vehicle. This means over the lifetime of the car you need two pots of wax - i.e one refill. That means each pot costs £2900.

Each application of wax costs you £5800/140 = £41.43. The more cars you do (or more regularly you wax), the cheaper the wax becomes. I am of course ignoring other costs such as HD cleanse etc.

Now if you consider that every few weeks you put £45 of Optimax in your Ferrari and then burn it, how unreasonable is the cost?

For committed DIY'ers, I'd say it isn't the per-application cost that is the killer - it's the initial outlay. Dave and other valeters charge a reasonable amount given the time they invest to give you an excellent finish using these very expensive products, but assuming you have the knowledge and the time, it is far more cost effective (and maybe satisfying for some) to do it yourself. I have to say though, the proposed charges for the Royale application were beginning to look a bit silly to me.

A few people could group together and get a pot of Royale...

I suppose i must be different to normal ferrari owners as i would rather spend £6000 on tyres brakes and petrol than a can of polish and use the car as that is what they are made for

Excellent points made by Graham, Ric and steve,
I'm very concious of overstepping the line between offering advice and self promotion.
I have taken in what Ric said about applications being a little overpriced , I asked for opinions and now I'm getting them, which is great.
after all I'm trying to put a package deal together that would appeal to most (not just F-chatters) so opinions and advice are greatfully recieved.
I agree totally that £6k is a lot to fork out for wax , whether you can afford it or not and I was wondering how long it would take before someone mentioned grouping together, but if you read between the lines of my previous postings you will see that a few people are grouping together to buy some Royale, with the added bonus of it being applied by myself.

my right arm is very sore from polishing other things this weekend, so if you wanna do mine with swissol and stevef's with zymol we could compare them and settle the argument
