Clyde- Projected at 62,000 miles on mine, but I doubt I will wear it out that soon.
leaving for New Orleans for the thanksgiving holidays with the grand kids bought the car with 26k on it in may it now has 36k plus on it waxing it tomorrow for the run down south with a 27 gallon gas tank and 20 MPG it has a stage length longer than I can sit! why people buy these cars and don't drive them is a mystery to me oh well gotta go guys as you enjoy your holidays with the family keep in your thoughts the men and women on the front lines peace paddling up!!
Great comment Erik…, instead of supporting the important industry to develop more enviromently friendly vehicles, they are constantly blamed for all the Co2 pollution in the world. There‘s a serious study, that a new diesel engined car cleans the air from Co2…, but nobody listen..., just electric, electric, electric… We don‘t care what happens in other countries,,,, Just we, in northern Europa seems to have this kind of view, we keep our envirometal clean...., what happens in other parts the world? Not in our focus…… Saluti,
Pushing out for New Orleans tomorrow morning Not to early because the deer are out there all over my route Alabama and Mississippi and Georgia Cool crisp mornings are what these cars love Through the the rolling forest and farm lands of the Deep South Look for a post from the Big Easy Until then Happy thanksgiving to all!!!
590 hp. with crisp American morning air!!! Here in France it is not so crisp. 18 degrees C. in the middle of the day! Today I went the outer coast road from Saint-Raphaël to Cannes Mandelieu. Fantastic scenery with red rocka, soft ocean swells rolling over them, twisty small roads and new snow on the highest mountain tops! Better living with twelve cylinders........ #dailydriver Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jealous But New Orleans isn’t that bad this time of year Did over 400 miles on one tank of gas Car has some legs on it With 2 bars remaining on the fuel gauge it took 20 gallons Looking forward to the run back home Have a great thanksgiving all
Clyde, Thank your for sharing this trip. I had wanted to do at least a 500 mile long weekend this summer in the 575 and never proritized it so it didn't happen. Your journey has definitely inspired me to get that on the agenda for spring. That what the car was made for.
Fear not You will get out there and drive your 12 cylinder and experience the joys Of what this car was made to do The more you drive the car The less problems you will have with the car Trust me I know My 512 TR has 109k on it and I’ve never been stranded with it And the 575 is so much better than my 512 TR When I bought this car in May it had 6 owners prior and had 26k on it in 16 years! What a waste In my experience with cars if your not doing a minimum of 3-5k on the car you are asking for trouble Modern day cars are extremely reliable and the oils and. tires make it easy So get out there and drive the car
Just got back to Atlanta from New Orleans Put 1100 miles on the car Ran like a top Went over 37k on it Checked the oil and it was fine Have at least one maybe two more long distance runs on the car before the new year Question out there Is it me or are the 575 headlights a little dim? Anyone have a better bulb for the head lamp? Anyway that’s it for now Paddle up my friends
Clyde, I thought your 575 had factory HID low beams, but in looking at the light bulb specs on page L1.03 of the WSM, it appears they "might" be old style halogen. Ferrari may have provided the cars with either halogens or HID's, depending on which market the car was going into. Since US lighting specs are woefully behind Europe's we probably got the halogens. Ferraridriver & I upgraded our 550's low beams with HID's and the difference was incredible, but we also upgraded the projectors themselves to get the correct optics for HID. It resulted in highly focused beams with razor sharp cutoffs, and they didn't blind oncoming drivers the way some aftermarket HID kits do. If you want to check & confirm what you have, typically the HID bulbs have a cable with a bright silver braided sheath going to them from the ballasts. Halogens typically just have regular wiring in black sheathing. Be very careful when handling HID cabling as the ballasts/igniters emit a very high voltage pulse to get the gas ionized within the bulb, and if you're not careful, you'll think you got across the wrong end of a magneto.
Ok I have a 2003 model Will check the headlamp leads Seems as if once in a while they flicker Don’t do much night driving But I want them to be a bright as possible when I am out there If you know what I mean Thanks for getting back to me
There are dubious aftermarket higher wattage options for the halogen lamps, but HID's are really the way to go, unless you want to make the jump to LED's. Last I knew the jury was still out on which is better, HID's or LED's, but I think there are still cooling and longevity issues with LED kits, while HID's are mature and proven.
Input the HID kit on the 512 And I agree And you can’t aim an LED That’s why they are not on airliners Which kit is on your 550?
Since the headlight pods are made by Valeo, and they provide similar pods to Audi we used Audi projectors, and it was like a 10 minute job to swap the projectors out. Then I think Dave used Bosch or Hella ballasts, while I opted for Denso (IIRC). It looks like Ferrari opted for a BMW style HID setup on the 575M where the ballast is mounted on the rear of the low beam. I found this pic of it in section L2.06 (this is IF you have HID's, but I'm thinking you must have halogens): Image Unavailable, Please Login
No kits, I did everything myself with parts I bought on Ebay. The 99/01 Audi A4/S4 used a Valeo projector that is a direct plug and play replacement for the Ferrari projector but with the proper curvature of the reflector for the D2S bulb. I bought a set of clear lenses from Turkey to replace the Fresnel lenses, gives a bit brighter light. I used the matching Audi/Hella ballast. It was necessary to run dedicated 12AWG wires to 40 amp fused relays mounted next to the ballasts because the starting current was to high for the onboard fuse panel. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sylvania Silver Stars used to be one of the trusted "upgrades" for halogens. Most halogen low beams are 55w, however Ferrari's specs say 60w, and the Silver Stars are 65, so they're pretty close. They do have a whiter light than most halogens, but it's not that funky bluish tinted light that the true aftermarket junk puts out. I found on Amazon that Hella does offer a 100w halogen in the 9005 configuration, which I think is the correct configuration for your car, however I wouldn't install it without upgrading the wiring. That's nearly twice the wattage of stock, so twice the current, and given Ferrari's penchant for cheaping out on their electrics, the wiring is probably already undersized for the stock lamps. https://www.amazon.com/HELLA-9005-100W-High-Wattage/dp/B000COBLOI
Running stouter wires is quite easy, use the existing wire as a trigger for new high amperage weatherproof fused relays located near the headlights.
Just got back from a trip atlanta to Charlotte in the 575 Car went over 37 K Great cool weather Ferrari’s love cool weather and then we hit the mountains with a friend In my other monster Image Unavailable, Please Login Me and my 512 TR and Cody in his 348 Running around on mountain passes during the week No traffic Loads of fun happy holidays to all Get out and drive !!
Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Well I put a little over 13k miles on the 575 since may So I had to do another oil change It’s a piece a cake once you remove the engine condom ! What a pain Did an over night drain Image Unavailable, Please Login Oh yea and you DONT need to torque the oil filters These were put on by hand and they never came off or leaked Hand tighten is all you need I date and put mileage on the filters These are the ones coming off Image Unavailable, Please Login I use Mobil 1 15w-50 since this car puts out so much heat I use this same weight in my 512 TR as well never any issues ran the car and checked for leaks none Have to get it up to temp to check the oil level Replacing air filters also can’t wait to get back on the road
