While I was out for a literal Sunday drive this last weekend, I caught an uneven surface on the road and my front wheel got a little tweaked. Not too bad, but enough to have repaired.

My mechanic came over last night and slipped a spare on the car and took mine off for repair and refinishing.

He said that the shop he sends to, powder coats after they are done with their work.

I believe my current wheels have paint on them.

Does anybody know whether the wheels were originally powder coated or painted.

    Thanks for any input.

Ferrari does not powder coat their wheels.

Powdercoating is essentially a form of painting. Don't see any reason why this would not be acceptable with an appropriate color match.

I have a wheel that needs refinishing as well, so would also appreciate input as to color match

Painted, like Brian said and the color is PPG 36520, Argento Metallizzato or Argento Nurburgring, same color with two names.

    All,

thanks for the input on the paint and the code. I may end up just buying a new , original set and taking my existing and doing something fun with them.

I am thinking about polishing them.

has anyone done this ? and if so, did they come out looking good. ?

I am sure it has been done. They would need to be clear coated after polishing or they would tarnish almost immediately, especially with brake dust.

Be sure to ask them that they do NOT use thermal paint stripping prior to coating (pyrolysis). This happens at high temperatures (up to 430 degrees Celsius) which may make the aluminium lose its strength. Most shops know this but not all.
The powder coating "baking" process happens at about 200 degrees Celsius which should be ok.
