Also, been a member here for around 8 years...never posted, just a lot of reading. I have never been able to view any pictures, it states "log in to view", but I am logged in...any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

$8500 is sky high, even for degreeing the cams during the belt change and full service. Mine have been around $4000-5000 for everything.

Not going to happen for that price across the pond. Mine was done for $1200 once, but that was in 2007 and was only a lock and swap.

Super cheap, even for the UK no? Most specialists quote £1,000+ for a cambelt change. The price you have is more aligned with a standard service no?

Did it myself a year ago, but in parts alone (Hill bearings, belts, bolts, thermostat etc) it was close to 1000 euro, so around 1100 usd a year ago.
Labour is something like 16-20 professional hours including degreeing the cams I believe.
I do not know what a specialist or a AD will charge you per hour, but if it is 150 usd an hour just do the math...
But this is without "while we're in there, you might as well..."

just dropped the 97 550 for an all fluids and belt service.... I asked how much it might be approximately.... a slightly pained and gentle reply of ' I've never done just a belt service on a maranello, I have always uncovered more'

I got a quote in Italy of about 1.200 euro for a timing belt change including parts. In the Netherlands they said they only replace the tentioner bearings if they hear they are worn... both official Ferrari workshops. I would bever ever just replace the belt and not the bearings. The trch told me that it is about four houres of work. The radiator does not need to come out, and they even do it with the hoses still on the radiator. But to pay 6-8000 dollsrs for a timing belt change and some oile etc..... That is not serious business.

    I would
Appreciate suggestions for 550 belt service in NY area. Closest dealers want 9500 and 12,000 (no I am not kidding - without new head gaskets.)

close to 4 years ago I paid $6000 at the $9500
    Dealer….talk about inflation!!

Depends what is included. Replacing cam seals means pulling the cams. Valves would be adjusted too. Since you are there what about the water pump hoses and under plenum stuff like manifold gaskets and sensors. Injectors too. That is Major service territory.
Just a belt lock and swap should be much less.

You have to define what a “belt” (or “major”) service is before you can argue costs. I know @Rifledriver will agree with me. :)

Details, details... You are correct but my point was essentially what Bradon said. What is on the bill of particulars? But thanks for pointing that out.

Not to mention, there is no major service defined for any late model Ferrari. Just a bunch of time and mileage services plus "while you are in there" that folks tend to lump together and call a major.
