Just wondering what the going rate at the Ferrari dealer is for the annual service for the 550. thanks in advance
Kris- Averages about $1000/year for Maranellos if done correctly, and $4-6K every 5 years for cambelts if nothing goes wrong.
Hmmm, I just had a highly recommended independent Ferrari mechanic quote me $11K for belts, fluids and filters for my 550. Maybe it is time to call around to a few more shops.
Taz is correct. $11k is what I spent on my T.R. with the engine out. Belts and fluids should be far less for the 550. I think my independent F. mechanic quoted me about $3800 for the belts, etc.
Eleven grand? Does he use a gun to get that? That is so absurd I can't think of words to describe it.
I made a few calls this morning and it sounds like I can get a more through job done for less than half the money that I was originally quoted. Thank you for the information and suggestions.
Jim --- Independent Ferrari Service in MA are great, and likely not too far from you. Believe they are on the eastern side of MA.
I think it only fair to mention that $4-6K I quoted assumes nothing else is wrong or leaking. If additional items need to be done, like plenum hoses (SRI's complete hose set is ~$1000, Ferrari's probably more), injectors (~$300+labor), power steering hoses, lifters, leaking front cover with possibly bad bearings, etc, the cost will be much higher. You really need to see a list of what needs to be done before you can get an accurate estimate. When the 550 was an $80K Ferrari, a lot of maintenance requirements were ignored or delayed.
Closest Ferrari repair shop is 3.5 hrs away, IFS is about 4 hrs, so it is within range and I will be calling them, as well as a few others. I will also be visiting all the shops I call before I hand the keys over to any of them to work on my 550.
My 575 was annual serviced at main dealer just now. Cost was £950 inc tax for oil, brake fluid, antifreeze, screenwash, brake cleaner aerosol, air filter, three gaskets, and a filtro H89 con bypass, no clue what that is; plus a usual inspection to see if anything wrong. That's around USD 1200 and I think quite reasonable for a V12 Ferrari with central London labour rates.
Just got the 550 back. Independent local specializing in Italian metal. Oil &filter Belts and tensioners AC top up No Air filter since brand new. And a bit of faffing about wit the AIrbag ECU 1.285
The factory maintenance plan is of course documented in the owners manual but individual shops will interpret it as they see fit. A number of UK dealers/specialists offer menu pricing for the usual interval services and common jobs. Here's one example (Dick Lovett, an official dealer). Prices include labour, genuine parts and the dreaded 20% VAT. Of course that £835.00 quote above for cam belts will be the lock & swap price. If it is necessary to disturb something leading to a requirement to have the cam timing reset, the labour costs will quickly escalate. Darius, your dealer worked out to be a bit cheaper than the below. Do you think that he would have replaced the coolant for you, or just checked the level and topped it up? Gearbox oil should be changed every two years but I believe that your car had some work done on the 'box when you bought it so you should be OK. On the 575M F1, the F1 hydraulic fluid should be 'checked' every year, but some would say that it should be replaced periodically although the factory maintenance plan does not stipulate that either the coolant or F1 fluid should be changed. This seems rather imprudent but the factory would of course be happy if every customer drove his car until it wore out/broke as long as they come back to the dealer network for repair and/or replacement! Bargain, had to be a lock and swap. In April 2008, mine had a lock and swap only, no other service except aux belts, by Gary Bobileff, and his price to Ferrari of Orange County was $1200. That was before I bought her
Looked in both WSMs and there does not seem to be much difference. Have to ask Brian or one of the other pros who have swapped them. The intake manifolds are reversed on the 575M and 612, so there is more junk mounted up front on the 612, like the throttle valve actuator. Cannot see where that would make that much difference, though. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oops just looked again, that was for the 430. 575 service was simultaneous and similar to above but with oil filter cartridge and air filter, and the odd washer and gasket, and full coolant replacement (lots of litres), cost was GBP 1320 inc VAT. Which is still fine..at Joe Macari, official Ferrari service/approved sales, and very respected workshop.
As far as the cars go there is no justification. As warranties get longer and Ferrari pays direct for more service the customer pay items will get higher and higher to compensate. I have been trying to tell people that for a long time.
Darius- F430 and 575M (456, 550, 612) clutches cost about the same here, around $2500 for clutch and pressure plate. Not all that needs to be replaced, but similar prices for the other pieces, too. Low volume drives prices, plus the yellow box VNAT.
Thanks Taz, that makes sense. Though I have googled yellow box VNAT and ah thought about it and..what does that mean?
