Not only is Autocar's top speed wrong but also the 0-60 MPH time. 5 seconds, yeah right. I know people who can really drive the 512TR and have cracked 0-60 in 4.7 secs dead. Obviously the test people from Autocar need to buck up their ideas or seek work elsewhere.

I'd like to know who tested the 355 as = to the 512TR in acceleration.

Thats a joke as I've repeatedly blown away 355s in straight line acceleration in my road 512TR

That 175mph speed is not on a straight road. The speed is limited by the relatively tight radius on the oval track - Millbrook (sp?) - that Autocar tests on. If I remember correctly, they were only able to get around 180-190 mph from a McLaren F1 on that oval.

    i thought from Ferraris tech figures that a 355 had a slightly better 0-60 and 0-100 than a 512tr

The official facts are for a 355 0-60 MPH time = 4.7 Seconds. And to be more precise the 0-100 KPH (0-62.137 119 224 MPH) time for a 512TR stands at 4.8 Secs. Before any mods had been done to it I have timed 0-60 MPH in my dads' 512TR in exactly 4.7 Secs using a Tag Heur stopwatch with my brother driving. Therefore the 355 and 512TR have identical 0-60 MPH times.

Dont forget that speedos are not 100% accurate so your 0-60 check is not 100% precise.

Wow..170+ in a TR. You gots to have "Large Attatchments" to take a TR that fast. In the short amount of time that ive had my TR i can tell you it is much scarier to take at speed than my Stradale was. 150mph+ in the Stradale in a blink of an eye, I would hesitate to do the same in my TR!!

    why is that???? hmmm...

I would have thought that the 512 would be more stable at high speed due to its width and wide tyres, than a 360.

Maybe straightline speed with no deviation, the TR will be fine. But overall, with any twists in the road, any road imperfections, the TR does not absorb/handle the road imperfections anywhere near the Stradale!!!

Maybe it's 10 year newer suspension geometry/technology..I dont know. Just telling you what i feel from the seat of the pants.

never timed the acceleration myself, so nothing to say there. but i have had mine up to an indicated 310-320 kph on the autostrada in italy, there was a little more there, but no more road. that is 192.2 - 198.4 mph. lets assume an optimistic speedo by about 5-10mph, and so i was more/less at a real 190mph. car felt solid.

The TR gets a little light at that speed, but I have done 170+ on numerous occasions in mine.

I agree whole heartedly, bc turns and bumps at high speeds in the TR are scary.

I wouldnt call it scary but it definately gets your attention. Ive had my road 512TR at the limit on the banking at Pocono & on the esses at Watkins Glen and she is very stable, although she like to wag her big sexy butt a little. Thats why you put the race brake pads in the rear

LOL, it takes a lot of practice but I got to the point where I could actually toss mine around the track. Sort of like the Ballerina dancing Hippo in Fantasia :)

I've seen many publications which state 0-60 in 4.7 as 0-100 KPH is actually 0-62 which was 4.8 secinds.

Isnt that becourse your TR is a twin turbo monster:D
I had a TR as my first ferrari and it was killed by a TVR Cerbra, big time;)
I have come up against a Standard Testarossa a few times on the road and they cant out drag a 355 from a standing start, no way.

No thats my normal 512TR that will outdrag a 355 Challenge car

My twin turbo 512M is close to F40 performance level :)

then the silver 512TR will blow the doors off an F40

But Im talking about a stock 512TR not a TR

People at club gatherings are always amazed at how much power the 512TR has. It really is quite a different car from the earlier TR

512TRs are lighter than the first series TR, the 512Ms lighter still, a well tuned carb BB will run away from a 355 let alone a 512TR, a 512M will leave one in the dust not to metion drown out the 355s engine note while doing it with a loud screaming flat 12 wail.
