I spotted this 512M at a show, and the owner had converted it to popup headlight configuration. I think it looks better this way! Chris [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDDHYXfzrQ8]RARE: Ferrari 512M w/ popup headlights - YouTube[/ame]
This is not a F512M, but a modified 512 TR. It's not easy to spot, but you can see it when you look at the front hood (the F512 M has NACA ducts on the upper side) and the rear hood (F512 M has the complete engine lid in body color). If I converted an M front end I would use a TR hood and lights to preserve the original parts. This could be the case.
Oh wow, that's the same car! I was told that he changed the headlights because he liked them and allowed more trunk space with the hidden headlamps. Chris
I believe he means the rectangular 'lights under glass' look. Agree on that. Same with later NSX, I just never got used to it. Back to OP, I still like the rear lamp treatment on the 'M', though little else of the changes... except for the solid diff! If someone threw an M my way, I'd revert to 512TR wheels and save the originals where no one could see them.
Or for that matter, like blowtorch goggles on Claudia Shiffer. While we're at it the round tail lamps spoil the low, wide look of the testarossa and TR...like boils on her perfect butt.
I'm with ya. The original TR styling is exactly what it was suppose to be. The square and horizontal features from the front grill to the back louvers meld perfectly through the "functional" side strakes. Internally, the seats follow the same minimalist design cues. The 512TR and obviously the M are departures from what was considered a well thought out design package. It's exactly what happens when you allow marketeers and sales execs to have a say. IMO, they should have ended the Testarossa in 91 and not try and fools us with it's derivatives. Besides the 308 morphing into the 328, i don't know of any other Ferrari that received minor cosmetic updates* AND a name change as if it's a completely different platform all together. For those who say the 512TR and the F512M are not Testarossa's, the phrase "I am my fathers son" comes to mind. * is for those who will remind me about the mechanical and performance upgrades
Its on Ebay at the moment with a 95k BIN. I have seen it a few times at Super car sunday in Woodland Hills. Nice car!
So instead of just buying a 512M, he went through all the trouble to convert a 512TR into a 512M? That seems like a costly project! Chris
