No favorite here, I'd being saying the same regardless of the "winner," but I'll never buy into any video that doesn't have controlled and verified performance factors (i.e. equally skilled drivers, fixed distance before backing off, etc.). There are just potentially too many variables that have nothing to do with the car's performance to give any real value to these videos, IMO. Jim
How do we know the 488 driver isn't backing off? This proves nothing and in fact, isn't even important one way or another.
I found your video right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1Iyl_zAm_Y This has about the same relevance and accuracy as the video the OP provided.
More like seeing a video of a dad beating up another dad and then arguing over why it's either fake or not.
This video is not something anyone of sound mind could take seriously as any given. So many unknown variables in play here... Is the 650 tuned? Did the 488 back off all the time? It sure looked that way to me. Fwiw my impressions after driving 650s left me feeling pretty cold about the car in general. Other than the event factor there really wasn't really much else to get excited about imo. Not saying 650s isnt as fast or faster than a 488 but to me it sure didn't feel it - it was however sure laggy though...much as was the case with 570s.
You've driven a 488, 650 and 570? real life results 650 beats 488 in 60 to 130 MPH by .5 seconds using VBOX.
Yes - all 3 on street and on track (inc the 3 variants of 570) And i did not spare the welly on the circuit. Not sure about your Vbox results but to me it didn't feel as quick but maybe all that lag was playing a part in that. Happy to stand corrected on the actual outcome between these two - tested in an official environment though.
I know the driver/owner of the 488 and 650, personally. We subsequently did it with a 570s. The 570s driver wasn't satisfied with the VBOX results so we are going to try it again. The other thread with the 570 pulling on the 488 wasn't supported with the 570 vbox results. 650S vs Ferrari 488 (VBOX Numbers) - McLaren Life
Interesting. Thanks. Although i note he did admit that the tests were conducted at different times and temps and, that he didn't feel the 650 was as quick as it showed to be. Perhaps the differences would be smaller again, or larger, if tested together at the same time of day/conditions? For me there was little doubt that the 650 was a fast car, but did it deliver as good a sensation as the 488? Sadly no. I mean sadly in the sense I was prepared to go with the 650 over the 488 order as I was being offered a much better deal. And seeing the direction 650 prices have taken since, I think I dodged a bullet.
Yeah , it's hard to get very controlled results . It's hard to tell with butt dyno when it's a half second different . On a totally different day a 570 did 7.4 . 570 owner wasn't satisfied with it because it didn't support some of the videos that had been posted . He was only able to do one attempt before we had to get out of that location . We shall try it again soon in a more controlled environment . We were just doing this to satisfy a curiosity and have some fun with it . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah times can vary from day to day (i've a Vbox myself). But it's always fun trying! Keen to see what you guys can come up with there! I think the 570s is quite an exciting car... and pretty good value too.
Drag races are boring and useless IMHO. What is more telling is a track performance that will show a wider range of abilities. Same professional driver, same track the 650S is left for dead by the 488 GTB: Le Mans Bugatti, Christophe Tinseau McLaren 650S 01:46:16 Ferrari 488 GTB 01:44:28 SUPERTEST SPORT AUTO MCLAREN 650S CIRCUIT DU MANS VIDEO SUPERTEST FERRARI 488 GTB SPORT AUTO I know there's a trend here for 488 bashing but I won't surrender To beat the 488 GTB lap time (not by much, 01:44:04) McLaren needs the 675LT.
488 is definitely faster on the track than the 650S, but the 650S had been on some pretty old tire compound. The new Corsas are better than the old Trofeos, from what I understand.
oh the 650s is faster in a straight line, and so was the 12c compared to the 458, and which was still the better car? Straight line speed is not everything. But I do find it hard to believe the 650s would pull on the 488 that hard with both at full throttle.
