I am looking to purchase my first supercar, Ferrari 488GTB, Full carbon race package, carbon driver zone, carbon Goldrake racing seats, Rosso Corsa, 2018 with 4000 miles.

Where do you anticipate the market to be for a vehicle of this spec in two years time? Do you think they have reached the bottom of their mass depreciation now

    1) £120k - £130k
    2) £130k - £140k
    3) £140k - £150k
    4) £150k - £160k

No one can predict. More than likely they will
Be lower than where they are today. If the 20-30k is going to affect your life that much- maybe consider another car.

I have no idea, and neither does anyone else. My personal narrative is that 488 drivers would just as well buy a Pista, F8, or 296. There is nothing to set the 488 apart. As a result, it will be priced below these cars. Maybe the whole segment moves up! Or down? I have no idea. The 458 has a small chance of moving out of band. The 488 has zero chance. It'll always cost less than an F8.

The pricing schedule you post is in Euros? I presume you are in Europe…if you specify the Country more chatters from there can chime in.

The 488 is the new F430. Forever stuck between two models that people really want to own (i.e. the 458 or Pista/F8)

Hard to say, the F8 is pretty nice.

However, one thing is for sure: probably the F8 or Pista over the 488.

OP the car sounds the right spec. I say if you like it just buy it. You could do a hell of a lot worse than a 488 so far as a Ferrari goes.

488 Pricing our way has certainly taken an upward trend from where it was pre covid. And the take up is pretty strong too.

I'm not sure why all the 488 hate as F8 and Pista are also both 488's and, while the 488 is the lesser performing it isn't by any huge amount - not that the performance of any these 3 is easily accessed outside of a race track.

Looks wise GTB is still an attractive Ferrari in the right color and spec, and dollar for dollar the best value in certain respects which is probably why there are so few for sale now. And 488gtb definitely sounds better as a Ferrari than an F8 - no question there.

I think OP is in the UK (quotes £ & miles) but does not give an indication of current pricing to know how much depreciation the scenarios represent (even assuming our crystal balls are in working order......)

Lets say current price is £ 180 then dealer spread plus depreciation plus softening of the current pricing bubble probably leaves £ 120-130 in a couple of years

I'm in the UK and bought a 2016 488GTB 12 months ago for £160k and in the process of upgrading to a 812SF from a Ferrari main dealer. They offered me £135k so a £25k drop in 12 months and 2k miles. This is as good a barometer of where you can expect 488GTB prices to go here in the UK. The Ferrari dealer trade/retail spread is 10-15% alone without factoring in the ACTUAL depreciation.

It’s so hard to say . . . in the US (only market I know) the 488s are up significantly in the last four months - I bought an ‘18 for $230k in February (list $330k with 1600 miles) and was offered $260k by dealer last week but my F8 isn’t here yet so I’d be left with cars I like less to drive while I wait. Given F8s are trading above MSRP and the 296 is still unclear in terms of reception I’m not sure there’s huge downside to the current prices. Will they go down, yes - will they go down significantly? I think for low mileage, well spec’d probably not. It’s still a fantastic car even though the F8 is more advanced. What’s odd is the UK prices quoted seem much lower than anything trading here in US.

Just my guessing here but I passed on the 488 because they are depreciating. I predict they will go down to 1/2 their sticker price one day as the bottom price. The best buy might be the 2015 458 Spiders. The dealers want almost 300k (MY 2015) for them now. 250k was the high price range around April, now around 300k.

The 488 is yet to depreciate, actually everything is up in this market here but I think it’s far from sure it will stay at that price point

Just expect about £30k/year depreciation. It’s probably in that ballpark as it’s used.

There is indeed no reason for a 488 to be as expensive as an F8, since the F8 is - and will always be perceived as - an improved 488. But due to limited production time the F8 will be comparatively rare.
In the long term how it will compare with the 296 is less obvious; if the 458 could stand apart as last NA, the F8 could also as last V8 and non hybrid, and then the 488 as the same, just more available and for that reason less expensive.
As VS, Pista and Speciale will always command a premium over the regular cars, so they may not directly compete.

I have no idea where the market will be in two years' time.

I recently bought my first Ferrari - a 488 Spider - and I must say I find the Ferrari world a little strange. Few seem to actually drive the cars (2000 miles per year seems to be very high) and yet the car is still sat there depreciating. You can't keep me out of mine! I've put 1200 miles on it in six weeks, and have found every single last one of them utterly thrilling. The 488 is astonishing. Mine has lapped up some fast B roads, a few days' break in the countryside with my wife (ample room for luggage in the frunk), a track session at Snetterton, and is remarkably usable in town - I even did the school run in it a couple of times.

This forum is very dismissive of the 488, with comments like the above '488 drivers would just as well buy a Pista, F8, or 296'.(not picking on FFan5, just using it as an example of the narrative here). Well an F8 or Pista is £100-£150k more, the 296 is a very different proposition and not even out yet. I test-drove the F8 last week to see what I was missing out on. The F8 is a little faster and feels tauter; I like the smaller steering wheel. But it is by no means night and day. It's obviously down to personal taste, but I prefer the 488 interior dash and I much prefer the 488's exterior styling - I find the F8 a little fussy and actually think it might age less well over the years. The 488 definitely sounds better than the F8! I've not driven the Pista so can't comment, but as a road car rather than a race car, I like the styling even less than the F8 and 488. So in conclusion, to drive, the F8 had a slight edge on the 488, but did not sound as good and to my taste I did not like the interior or exterior as much. Worth an extra £100K? For me, not a chance. I drove my 488 home very, very happy.

Back to depreciation. With most Ferrari owners seeming to change cars every 12-24 months and wanting the latest car, yes I think the 488 will continue to depreciate but hopefully the worst is over. Spec of the car and proper maintenance are everything. And yes, mileage, if you drive your car (which I strongly suggest you do, otherwise what is the point?) will hurt the value. Probably figure £20-30K per year, and a dealer margin of 15% when you sell. Get comfortable with that, and then enjoy the hell out of the car!

Ditto on all accounts. Actually the 488 GTB is a great First Ferrari !

Definitely the F8 steering wheel is better. Ild pay even 15 k to swap it over but no-one in Ferrari will give me an answer !

BTW if you cant open the valves because of lack of controller or dont have them pinned ild suggest do it.
