Hi All, Just placed my order of my very first 488 GTB Coupe. Expected delivery date is end of Aug or beginning of Sep. Dealer can't confirm whether this will be 2017 or 2018 model year. However, he thinks it will be 2018. Should i try to push the dealer to extend the delivery time frame to ensure a 2018 model year or it doesn't matter. Dealer also thinks that if i try to push the delivery time frame, I might be paying for 2018 price increase and getting exactly the same car. What is your opinion?
Thank you in advance for your response.

Delivery time from order placed is typically 6 months unless you are picked up an already speced car. I think there is no question you are getting a 2018. If it's an 2017 it's already produced car. As an example my Spyder orders was placed in October, locked in January and got my competed car photo last week and will likely be in the western US in July

Thank you for your quick response. Allocation was accepted yesterday. I don't understand If build time is typically six months, how dealer is promising Aug end / early Sep delivery. He also said that car will go in production in next month or two.

I guess timelines are all over the board. I submitted my order on February 10th. I heard today that my car arrived in New Jersey. Dealer tells me I should have my car by late next week.

This likely means little to most people, but I was eager to have my car built in 2017 because it's the 70th anniversary of Ferrari. Again, probably means little to most, but I thought it was cool.

That's very fast. My GTB I ordered end of November 2015 and I got it last week of April 2016. My spider was little longer as there may have been delays due to my triple layer paint done off site but 5-6 months is pretty typical for a US car that's a new allocation. Is it possible someone backed out of an allocation that is all ready in the que? Even with this I don't see how any car could arrive in the US by aug or sept (especially since the factory is closed in August)

This is typical production. Annie (the OP) is in the western US

My 2016 GTB took 4 1/2 months from a locked and accepted order (10) in the Ferrari Modis system to delivery on the West Coast.

If it's made in late July its going to be 2018

The warranty makes no difference as its from the date of delivery.

I think neither you nor the dealer can have any influence when the car is actually made. That's up to the factory.

It is possible the 2018 may have a price increase. You won't know the exact price of the car until the dealer gets the information from FNA. It also MAY come with more standard equipment as well.

I honestly don't think it matters much at all. Just be happy you got a quota. Many people are still waiting and would love to have your problem!

I'm getting the feeling that someone backed out from the que and I'm getting that allocation because dealer was kinda adamant about choosing certain options in order to get the car. I don't necessarily have any issues with the options choosen because car is spec nicely. However, I feel I should be getting a 2018 model at this point instead of 17 even though these two model years have no difference.

Where you able to pick the color or the exterior and interior? That would be the determining factor of a locked order if not. As far as options, I've heard of certain unscrupulous (IMO) dealers insisting on some options to jack up prices. Thankfully I've always worked with great dealers who may give suggestions for resale purposes but ultimately have let me choose. One way you can find out for sure is get a my Ferrari account online. It shows all your past and current cars and for cars you order it shows when the order was accepted and the actual date of purchase.

Unfortunately I find My Ferrari way behind and inaccurate on the information. It shows my Spider ordered on August of 2016 when I actually ordered the car in March of 2017.

Your timeline was very long, I ordered my car in the first week of January, picked up the car in the east coast in the middle of April...

It all depends on allocation your dealer has, just because you spec a car, doesn't necessarily mean your dealer truly has the allocation, no matter what they tell you.

Dealer is required to have an average dollar value of options for new cars. For example, if dealer has to have an average amount of $45K in options ordered across the board, don't expect to walk in and get a base car with no options, it simply won't happen. Ferrari makes a lot of money building cars, it's in the options where you really get hit hard.

Diamond forged rims on a 488 are over $8K OPTION, meaning above and beyond the cost of the "standard" rims. Same for electric/heated seats, the whole lot.
