Could not find a specific 488 Spider thread for photos so I post this here. 213134 today at Zurich Auto Show in Switzerland. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
Out of curiosity, am I the only one that thinks Ferrari came out with the Spyder demos way too soon? I mean, we haven't even seen delivery #1 in the US yet and they are already pumping out demo spyders. Why? When the 458 came out we waited a good year AFTER the first delivery and then they tantalized and teased (remember all the discussion as to whether it was going to be a hard top? The confiscated phones at the dinner in Modena?) before they gave us the first glance. I think this is going to hurt the sales of the coupe because people would rather wait for the 2 in 1 hard top convertible. Yes, I realize the spyder is not really a 2 for 1 but a lot of buyers will see it that way. At the very least it's going to hurt the pricing on the coupe. Was this due to Fiat trying to make more $$$? The IPO? I'm not sure but I think they made an error on this. Even when the F430 came out, we didn't get a peek at a convertible version till well after the deliveries of the first F430's were made.
Times have changed, big time. The Spider has always hurt the Coupé. Nothing new here. I think this (the Spider production) will reduce the number of Coupés built which is good as rarer is always better. Marcel Massini
