Hi am considering replacing in stages the exhaust on my 488 with the akrapovic system. First the link pipes. Has anyone done catless link pipes. What can one expect in terms of change either sound or power or both? Any suggestions?
I’ve done cat bypass and Novitec exhaust. I didn’t like the sound with cat bypass, because it only screamed at higher rpm and garbled / resonated at lower rpms. I put stock cats back on and left the novitec exhaust and now the sound is serene. Screams at 3k rpm to redline! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Does a CEL come on with the cat bypass. ? I agree the novitec or akrapovic suit the character of the car.
Thank you for your post, Novitec is also on my to do list. Base on videos, it absolutely change the car and sound so high pitched. Which version of Novitec do you recommend?
I have the valveless Novitec exhaust system on my 488. I never cared for the on/off sound of the valves opening and closing. The valveless system sounds really good throughout the rpm range and is not obnoxious at all plus it weighs less than the valved system.
Coming from a 458 Italia with the valves plugged I feel the Novitec setup for the 488 is comparable. The 458 screamed a little louder and was higher pitched but the 488 sounds remarkably close for a turbo car!
Video anyone? Have yet to hear a great 488 (including my spider). Interested in what it can be turned into.
Here is my Straight Pipes with cutom X-Pipe Exhaust by Boden Autohause. I tried 3 different versions until we came up with this one off set. They now have these kits in stock to ship HERE https://www.bodenautohaus.com/products/boden-ferrari-488-exhaust-system. I have also added their Charge Pipes which added 80hp to the Mid Range. This car pulls like a raped ape!!!!

The 458 Italia sounds higher pitched for sure and better overall. I am very happy with my 488 with the Novitec exhaust but you can't replace the NA sound. That being said the 488 is better in just about every way then the 458 Italia was in my opinion. The 488 is way faster too its a blast!
We have done SO MANY 488's with all the different Novitec 488 Variations and options - we have a thread going on here that you can peek in to check out. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/all-the-novitec-488-exhaust-system-variations-videos-impressions-inside-tag-ms.538208/ To answer the questions - Yes the Cat Replacement pipes do cause a check engine light be we always go with the novitec Techtronic Unit so that you don't have any Check Engine Light issues with it. That unit just plugs into the OBDII port and sits in there at all times. This really comes down to personal preference as to how loud you want the car to be. So basically here is the sound volume levels from Quiet to Loud 1) Novitec Exhaust System with Valves (rear muffler only) - nice and calm, can be fitted with optional switchtronic unit to go from loud to quiet from inside the cabin. This option gives you significantly more gargles and pops 2) Novitec Exhaust system WITHOUT Valves - this is my favorite and bang for the buck if you are keeping stock cats. This system gives you more gargles and pops and gives you significantly more turbo spool noise. Its whats fitted on 7 out of 10 of our 488's that we keep the stock cats on for (including our TAG 488 Spider - feel free to schedule an appointment to come down and hear this setup in person). Here is a video of our 488 Spider with the Novitec Exhaust that DOES NOT have the Flap Regulation(no valves) OPTION #2. We were able to give you some sounds of strong pulls, normal driving, start up and of course standing revs. 3) Novitec Exhaust System with Valves and Cat Replacement Pipes - This sounds amazing. This gives you the ability to get major turbo spool noise PLUS go from loud to quiet 4) Novitec Exhaust System WITHOUT Valves and Cat Replacement Pipes - This is just pure stunning sound - we had this on the TAG 488 Coupe and the pops and whistles are just intoxiating - this turns your 488 into a real animal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGgYcTURHKo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDEtefZ4gyg Now both #3 & #4 can be toned by fitting them with High Flow Cat Replacement Pipes which is also an option but my recommendation if you are going to do the downpipe, i suggest going with the complete cat replacement pipe. Again - we have done so many of these here at TAG and have shipped even more around the country/world and are always here to assist you if you have any questions to make your decision and buying experience better. check out www.tagmotorsports.com and select your vehicle and the majority of the pricing is all listed there for you to get a rough idea. Car sounds really nice Patrick21x but you really have me wondering now just how this exhaust can add 80hp so easily when Pista gained only 50hp after their engineers doing work changing and modifying the internals.
Most informative and a complete reply I have ever read! Thanks. It’s specially helpful for overseas buyers who don’t have access to modified exhaust sounds easily. I agree 3 and 4 are the best options. Cost?
Thanks for the kind words guys! These, along with many other quality products are listed HERE so you can grab them right from our page.
hey guys, does anyone have any issues with errors coming up on the car after the exhaust is installed. I get these random errors. Now the engine system failure came up on the car, Ferrari told me it could be the oxygen sensors because of the exhaust. i put in a capristo exhaust. Also have the piece installed to clear these errors and it still comes up. Any input would be great.
