Guys, As I wait for my car to arrive, I have browsed about 200 pages of our subject matter in the 488/458/F8 forum and did a search but haven’t found a thread dedicated to exhaust outside of the Tag examples of Novitec videos. I would love to hear what you guys think is the best exhaust combination.
I have Rich Brooks X pipe on my Ford GT and it sounds glorious.

For the 488 i am looking for
-a crisp high pitch that is “robust” (meaning not thin tinny sounding). Sorta like that famous 355 launch video with the kreiseg exhaust.
    - no drone
    - nice looking tips

    Do I need Cat delete?
    X-pipe only?
    Hi flow cats?
    Tune specifics? Want reliability

I’m leaning to Kline or Capristo but want to hear from all of you, I marry my cars so I want to do this right and I want to do this once.

    Experienced opinions are appreciated.

Just did a titanium x-pipe rear section on my 488 and it changed the tone from deep to more F1 especially on the top end. Idle is slightly louder and nice tone when driving at all speeds but doesn't have drone at any RPM. I didn't do hi flow cats because I still have warranty and didn't honestly want to deal will having CEL errors for just slightly more sound. Just my 2 cents...

If you are looking for more specifics just PM me. Good Luck and enjoy!

Thank you for the thoughtful reply.

BTW, if anyone is looking to go back to stock for some reason and is looking to offload their aftermarket exhaust, I would be interested to speak to you.

You won’t get anything like the 355, but I had a Pista that I added a novitec Inconel non-valved x pipe exhaust to and it greatly improved the sound. Much higher pitch overall.

Thanks Laguna, I get your comment about the 355. The twin turbo’d 488 impeding the sound makes this a little more challenging to figure out. Did you experience any CELs? Any issues with tuning?

Not at all. I didn’t touch the cats, otherwise I would have. It is a good sound, and just doing that x pipe gets you in a pretty good spot. TagMotoraports has a great thread on the matter for the 488.

So Dave, that’s the Ryft system then? Cat delete down pipes X-Pipe, stock sport exhaust tips, tune?

Mine exhaust is stock and it sounds afternarket. The reason? Drive the car the way it's meant to be driven. The exhaust on the 488 sounds more delicious with time and use.

Thanks. Do you keep the valves open? I do plan to put a lot of miles on it. The stock wheels look good also and I will be keeping all the stock gear but i’m Afraid, wheels and exhaust upgrades are mandatory in my collection. I always change that out at bare minimum.
This car was nicely spec’d and included the sound upgrade thankfully so that will stay put. I don’t use the radio much in any of my cars but when I do, I like nice sound. Like most of us here I much prefer the notes of the car though.

Not my style to rice the car, just tasteful upgrades. Exhaust sound MUST be robust for me.

Also have the sport exhaust and it's all stock (valves and everything) and as it's aged it sounds pretty loud to me. I might disconnect the valves but I like to keep my stuff stock. Tempting to do a cross pipe!

You need the X pipe to get some treble notes. Also, I believe the stock 488 exhaust changed 3 times over the course of the production run.

That’s interesting. It has factory sport exhaust but as I understand it, that is simply flat black tips.
Car is a 16 with 26K miles and was a two owner well cared for car. I will be owner # 3.
Exhaust sounded beefy but I couldn’t rev it up in the showroom. May be “broke in” as others are indicating a better sound with age.

I think they stopped exhaust options after the 458 (which was a Ferrari Genuine). Mostly you pay for the tips, which seem to cost as much as many exhausts… also, I could be wrong about all of this.

Ok, so I’m buying RYFT down pipes and Carbon tips now from a member here who reached out. (Thank you Fredrik). I will now need the RYFT X-pipe if anyone is looking to get rid of theirs.

I’m now curious about back pressure (maybe I should take this question to Q&A technical thread). Being a turbo motor, perhaps the back pressure must be maintained somehow as a matter of physics beyond what a tune can handle. Thoughts or knowledge on this would be much appreciated.

Once I’m done I will submit the process and the result for future members that want to see this end to end.

Your car is already broken in. When you get it drive it for a bit before u try and change the exhaust.

I agree I normally change exhaust and wheels at minimum but the exhaust wasn't necessary for the 488 only the the wheels. I don't touch the flaps and I drive the car in race mode. When you put your foot down you hear and feel it.

    Good luck!

Thanks Emm, yeah, car broke in and I’m very happy with the Condition, spec and set up. I’m going to buy all the RYFT stuff complete anyways.
I’m surprised to hear from you and others about the “good enough sound re: stock exhaust set up.

Once I get it I will report back.

Can you hear your turbos whistle in your stock set up?

Thanks Eric. Is your system Cat delete? Do you live with CELs?

    Will be watching videos now.

    Your car is wicked cool

You're welcome. I do still have some cats on there. I'd like to eventually go catless but I really don't want to piss off my neighbors anymore than I already do. lol

I do have a CEL. I keep meaning to send my ECU back so he can disable it, but I'm lazy lol

I've had CEL's on all my cars since the beginning of time. I don't really care about them lol
