Most people agreed the 458 looks very similar to the LaFerrari (LF). Their actual dimensions are very similar as well:

The biggest difference is the length, the LF is 7 inches longer, but that pointy front nose is accounted for most of that 7". It is only 2" wider, I am surprised it is 4" lower. But you have to remember this regular 458 height dimension is extra tall, take into account about 1" lowering to close up the fender gap and the front tire of the 458 is 0.5" taller. So effectively the body of the LF is only about 2.75" lower.

Wheelbase is almost identical at 0.6" difference, the most interesting fact is the LF actually got a smaller 19" wheels on the front with a 1.21" smaller overall diameter tire. The rear wheel and tire have identical diameter.

Front brake rotors have identical size (make sense as the LF should be ~300lbs lighter), 20 mm bigger on the rear of the LF.

The overall diameter of the tires also indicate their wheel wells opening diameter also are very close. Looks like they have very similar ground clearance as well.

458 coupe

Length 178.2 in (4527 mm)
Width 76.3 in (1937 mm)
Height 47.8 in (1213 mm)
Wheelbase 104.3 in (2650 mm)
Dry weight 3042 lbs (1380 kg)
Front 235/35/20 Overall diameter 26.47 in
Rear 295/35/20 Overall diameter 28.12 in
6-pot Front with 398 x 223 x 36 mm
4-pot Rear with 360 x 233 x 32 mm

LaFerrari

Length 185.1 in (4702 mm)
Width 78.4 in (1992 mm)
Height 43.9 in (1116 mm)
Wheelbase 104.9 in (2665 mm)
Dry weight 2766 lbs (1255 kg) (Estimate)
Front 265/30/19 Overall diameter 25.26 in
Rear 345/30/20 Overall diameter 28.15 in
6-pot Front 398 x 223 x 36 mm
4-pot Rear 380 x 253 x 34 mm

Yes, and the F12 dimensions are between the two. And keep in mind that LaFerrari is actually smaller than the Enzo in width and height (the same in length). For comparison a Porsche Cayenne or BMW X5 SUV is only 6 inches longer and is 2 inches narrower. One wonders how big a car has to be in order to carry two people in speed and comfort.

Yes they want to downsize from the Enzo. It is just interesting that usually the halo model is much bigger then the regular model, it is not the case this time.

Why is it that the younger sibling always seems to be hotter? The 458 is hot but the La Ferrari is just plain WOW!

You know, I don't like it. It seems too Lambo like for me.

Honestly, I see the same kind of thing going on here that the 308 had with the 288 GTO. The 288 GTO was hotter but they still related.

Good point, the 288 GTO was a 308 on steroids. It is happening again.

Is just that the Enzo was so different then the 360/430, it makes me forget.

Its clearly lower. The windshield appears more horizontal. Its surface is much more complex and the air intakes waaaaay bigger. I don't really see them as worthy of comparison.

Say what you will about latter day Ferrari styling, and I haven't cared for many of their designs, but they are pushing design forward.

Lambo is still doing the Countach. Porsche the 911. And Aston clung onto the DB9 as long as it could, producing a 4 door version and a mini one.

Ferrari simply doesn't do that. The fans react like Dylan going Electric but move forward they do. The FF may very well be ugly, but who is even making a car like that?

I admit, I'm more drawn to the more conservative 918 or, for that matter, Jim's homage to the P4. But the F70's got me thinking. Maybe I'm a simpleton. Maybe I'm stuck in the past or my taste buds aren't refined enough. The F70 is harder to digest than the 918, but I have a feeling that its going to age very well.

Good comparison. The side profile of the Italia and LF are very similar.

I think the people who complain about the F70's looks really want a Lamborghini with a Ferrari engine.

Hopefully, never gonna happen.

You have made a fantastic point: Ferrari takes chances with styling, whereas many others don't. So, you'll get traditionalists like me ticked off from time to time, but we do march on. And vis-a-vis the FF, I have seen one in person a few times now, and it's growing on me! I absolutely love the LaughFerri's styling, but I'll call it the F70 from now on. lol.

Still can't wait for their next retro-modern phase, though: My Rosso Corsa/Shields/Tan Daytona 456M GTA is still prettier than either the 612 or the FF (It was a retro-modern take on the 365GTB/4 2+2), and the 360 is still prettier than the 430 or 458 (It was a retro-modern take on the Dino 206/246). Oh, and the F50 still rules above all in my book (In Berlinetta configuration).

But, opinions are like... Ha!

That Ferrari takes risks with their styling is one of the reasons why there is so much interest in their new cars. We all know more or less what the next 911 will look like or the next Gallardo etc. But Ferrari sets us on edge. Over at the F70 et al Forum there were about a million views BEFORE LaFerrari was announced, with endless speculation and debates about what it would look like.

Then after a new car is announced there are opinions all over the place about whether the new car is better or not than the old car; whether it was aggressive enough; what they should have done differently; what it looks like in different colors; and on and on.

Nothing else in the automotive world is like that. Maybe nothing else in the commercial world.

The comparison is really intriguing!
I bet a lot of 458 owners feel even more proud!

Thanks for putting the data together!

Front and back end look amazing, am not sure about the side profile, IMO the shoulder sits way too high.

But @ 900+HP, no one will have the chance to see it from the side.

Proud enough.

IMVHO the 458 Spider is the best convertible sports car money can buy... Not just the best Ferrari convertible.

Not saying it's the best convertible investment, just the best convertible until they make a 458 16M.

I agree, it is the best all around convertible sports car so far.
