    Hi All,

I'm in the process of swapping out my stock springs for Novitec. My 458 has the front lift, so the front shocks are staying in place. The area's tight, and we've tried a couple of different spring compressors and they're too big to fit in there. For those of you that have done this before, any recommendations on what type of compressor to use?

    Thanks!

I ran into the same issue. I ended up modifying some I had to work on the Ferrari 458 coilovers. Here's a photo and also a YouTube video where I show them and discuss further:

    :)

As mentioned above, I would not recommend attempting this with the coilovers on the car. You really need to remove them and work on a bench. Even then, it's a risky job, because the lock nut can move when you don't want it to and jam things up (i.e. tear up the delicate aluminum threads on the collar). My advice would be to remove the coilovers and never attempt this job with the suspension on the car itself.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Can anyone tell me what type of fluid the lift system uses? I assume I may need to top it off after bleeding.

    Thanks!

The factory manual calls for Shell Spirax S4. The hydraulic pump is made by Parker Hydraulics in Minnesota and when I had mine serviced I asked the manufacturer and they said any hydraulic fluid is fine. But since I wanted the Shell Spirax S4, the only place I could buy it from was Keller-Heartt and they sell a minimum of 3 gallons = 3 jugs. So now I have 2.5 gallons sitting unused in the garage... If you were in SoCal I'd be happy to give you some.

You can corner the market with that supply! Is it Spirax S4 TXM?

    Thanks!

Yeah, shipping on those costs more than the product... It was cheaper for me to buy the 3 gallons and have them shipped, LOL.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but was doing a search on a spring compressor tool. Can the Schwaben tool be used with the coil over/shock assembly on the car or will it only fit with the assembly removed? Looking to do some minor ride height adjustments and would prefer to do it on the car. Thanks!

I never tried it on the car, but the tool is pretty big compared to those compressors you might find in your local auto parts store. You should be able to find the measurements for the tool online, so pull a wheel off and measure and see if you think it will work.
