Looking at the 458 options list and was looking for some feedback on the Hi Fi sound option. has anyone chosen this option and is it worth the money.

    Thanks

You know I don't think it is worth it. I had an italia with the premium sound system, it was ok.
The italia I have now has the basic hifi, it again is ok. The premium hifi is defiantly better but having owned and run both variations I must say I cannot see much point in having the premium, both systems are pretty 'ok' at best
And if u don't go for the premium version you get a nice little storage space in the door where the extra speaker would go, dead handy for the garage remote !!

Does the Hi Fi sound add much more weight? Is it pointless with the sound of the engine behind you?

It's not pointless. It's just what you like.

I have hifi and I think it sounds pretty damn good. It isn't great, but I would def order it on my next car. I rather have a factory sound system in my f car rather than having someone try to retro fit components into it.

I can hear it great on the hwy with the windows down.... It's nothing amazing, but much better than my other 2 f cars.

At $3474 it's worth it Bluetooth/Nav.In high 'n' site I didn't need the Ipod connector for $925 since it doesn't fit the new Iphone but I got it anyway

I think it is a no brainier in a 300k car. But, it comes down to personal preference. I have hi fi sound, and its okay. My 911 turbos Bose is WAY better, and my Ford GT system is way better. I can't imagine how bad the standard one is. Probably as bad as my Murcielago's system ;).

I ordered it after listening to both. It's better, but not the best. However, upgrading afterwards is expensive. The HIFI option has the extra speaker compartment on the back deck already fabbed out.

I skipped the B&O upgrade on my AMG CLS63 because it was $7,000. I ended up spending almost twice that when I did a custom upgrade. The end result was better, but it cost a ton more. I would have been happy with the factory upgrade.

The 458 will be my daily driver, so the increase in quality won't cost that much when amortized over the number of days spent driving.

    Very good points.

Hard to imagine putting $14k in a car's sound system.

Harder to imagine putting $28k in a car's paint job.

I think that $925 cable ONLY works with an Ipod. Wont play music off phone last i checked.

We are making progress, everytime I see a thread about hifis/stereo it seems we must always have the same quote appearing, however in this thread there is only one post stating a hifi is pointless when you can listen to the engine...thats a far better average than in previous threads.
I think the 'why have a stereo when you can listen to the engine' quote is possibly my most annoying recurring post of all time.

458 does not have ability to stream music via bluetooth, you need to have it plugged in. It does have bluetooth handsfree calling.

(2013 FF and Cali do have bluetooth streaming audio, interestingly)

In the 458 you do need to play around with and get used to the audio menu flow (right TFT).
I rarely listen to music in the car; however if you have the patience, set up the voice recognition it's actually pretty decent.

I had a 2010 coupe with Hi FI and now 2013 spider with Hi FI. Let me say that I was very outspoken in this forum about actually liking the 458 coupe's system. Never thought twice about ordering in spider. But, before delivery I noticed spider does not have entire top of back wall with speaker housing. I was anticipating a fall off in performance therefore. Sadly, the spider system is not as good as the coupe's. I assume this is due to speaker enclosures and possibly drivers that are contained in them. I wish I had done homework to find out how they are different to give better info. But, and this is a big but, it is better than the stock set-up. Many don't/didn't like the coupe set up. I thought it was worth it. The spider may be better, but not by as much in my opinion. One qualifier: I like to play any system as close to "flat" as possible. I always hate distortion, etc. I have not "tweaked" the equalization to see if it can improve the spider's sound system. Too busy listening to engine etc. Will clown with sound system after getting used to the car.

Do not use the Apple new iPhone adapter for music listening. This has a terrible digital to analog convertor in it. Its like listening to MP3 at the absolute lowest sound quality. Instead just get a dedicated iPod with the old connector and use the iPhone simply as a phone. The new iPhone connector does not carry analog audio signals and most accessories/ automotive uses expect an analog signal. The signal has to be converted from digital to analog somewhere. The older connector used the iPhone's own D-A which is pretty good/ good enough for a car for sure. The new little adapter has to do the conversion for full compatibility and it is just awful.

I had the HiFi upgrade in my 2010 California and it was so bad I opened everything up to look and see if I actually had an upgrade. I then compared it to a non upgraded California (yes, I opened that one up too). It consisted of a $300.00 dollar amp and four $50.00 speaker upgrades compared to stock. It was a waste of 5k. I have the upgraded HiFi in my 2013 coupe and it sounds marginally better. By marginally, I mean barely better. So, I decided to not order it on my Spider. The Bose in my 07 Porsche Carrera S blows the Ferrari coupes' upgraded HiFi away and cost a grand. My wife's 750i stock blows it away and the stock HK in my prior SL63 blows it away. For 5k, you would think Ferrari would do a better job on an upgraded HiFi system. Christ, I paid 12k for paint. I think most in here would pay 10k for an awesome stereo upgrade rather than 5k for borderline.
