Hi All, the rearview mirror on my 458 Spider has decided to part company from my windscreen. Looks like there is a glue pad - see attached?? Any advice on the - fix just glue this point? Did a search with no results, but if there is a thread on this please direct me to it. Thanks in advance.
[PS Upside was being able to treat the mould on the top where I couldn't get to :)!]
    Cheers George

Search Amazon for "rear view mirror adhesive" and you should find a few options

Yes, have the glue sorted, just wondering if there are any tips/considerations and confirming it just goes on the pad I identified in the image?

Oh, okay... gotchya. I'm not sure. The pad almost looks like VHB tape.

Is the pad soft (like your fingernail can dent it) or is it hard like glass?

That is a good question - it's actually it's a soft pad - looks like double sided tape product. I'm guessing I'm the first to deal with this problem!

My guess is that it's VHB tape from 3M. VHB stands for "very high bond". They have different thicknesses, but usually the stuff that is about .040" in thickness or so works the best. Here's a link for some stuff that looks like what I use here:

    https://www.amazon.com/3M-4941-Double-Sided-Acrylic-Yards/dp/B004V40IUS

Stick (no pun intended) with the 3M brand.

I use it to hold wheel weights on rims and motorcycle tires. It's pretty hardcore tape if used properly. Surfaces have to be cleaned with Acetone and you have to press it on for a bit and kinda let it set up.

That might be what you have going there.

See if you can peel off the grey square. If it's on there really well, but when it finally comes off, it sort of ends up like "stretched all to hell grey tape" then that's probably gonna be 3M VHB tape most likely.

Given your application, I would strongly suggest using whatever Primer they suggest also.

I have had my mirror slide down out of it's holder twice in the seven years I've had my car. I'm really LOOKING at your picture, and it looks like the mirror holder is still glued to your windshield. My 2013 mirror slides UP into the mount on the windshield. Yours sure looks the same. The metallic looking plate slips into the bracket, held from both sides. Your mirror probably was making noise for awhile before it fell off.

Yes, I can see how it slides up and before it fell off completely I tried sliding it back into place, to no avail. It actually came off in 2 stages. First, the front dropped down, when I tried to slide it back up and attach, and then it came away completely.
I can actually see where the pad would glue to the screen - there's a clear mark on the screen where it places. Not sure how you position this and slide it up?

I had to refresh my memory of the mirror by pulling it back down. It certainly appears your bracket has come off the glass. Standard mirror
adhesive will get it attached. Slide the bracket off of your mirror, so all you're having to glue up is the small bracket. The mirror attaches to the bracket with the slides on each side .Once the glue adheres just slide your mirror back into place.

I had my windshield replaced because of a rock, and the installer had to glue my old bracket into place.

Hi All, so my mirror on the 2014 Spider must be different as you can't slide the bracket off the mirror which fits through into the housing. Sorry, I can't give the detail because I took it to my local windscreen replacement place and the young guy was so keen to work on a Ferrari that he sorted it (with the resin they use to glue to windscreens) and charged me nothing, so I took him for a drive, drifted it through a couple of roundabouts and he walked away with a smile on his face. First time, me thinks, of owning a few Ferraris/Lambos that I've had a job done for that price!
    Thanks All.

I got the same issue on my speciale, the soft pad in the middle no sticky at all, so I'm not sure its a glue pad or the buckle is broken
