hello all. i was thinking of buying a ferrari someday. my main thing was buy used and not pay the new stealership price. if the ferrari you bought had problems or issues what would a brand new engine cost? and what if to save money you just bought a ferrari 458 in good cosmetic condition with lets say 30000 miles or more to get a major discount. would that be cheaper to just put a new computer with 0 miles and a new engine and new parts that need replacing?

Not sure what the engine cost is, but it couldn't be cheap. You can always get an extended warranty from Ferrari to cover the engine and the transmission. Much cheaper option.

Buy a car in warranty and after 2012 car so you get the 7 year service pack. To replace an engine will be loads

Its the name anonymous people who are ashamed of their name or profession on the internet give to businesses that have no right to make a profit or to make a living.

You know, those people who are afraid to take credit for what they say?

I would have guessed more, maybe 70,000 EUR.

crazy that is. Had anyone here had to have a new engine? Would it be covered under warranty? Gearbox covered too?

My E92 M3 engine is about $45K US so I imagine that a 458 would be a shipload more!

My 2010 458 which I bought in 2010 but it was used has been perfect

Some dealerships have a Ferrari mechanic who has been taught how to rebuild a Ferrari engine. They have to go to Italy to be certified. The good part is when thet do your engine it is certified by Ferrari as if it is done by the factory.

The 458 is a much less expensive to live with compared to previous models. But having said that they can all be expensive.

I had a small scratch on my 458 and it cost me $7000 US dollars. The good news is the car looked perfect.

IN the US the two price ranges provided by my fellow posters seem like the correct range since it depends on how far they they have to get into the engine.

IF you buy well and have the dealer look at and inspect the car you should have good luck with a 458. It is a well designed car. If you go back to the older models they can be super bone chilling expensive.

One poster was downgrading dealers in general, I think he was just teasing. I have personally found Ferrari dealers and other exotic car dealers to be just fine. As always you need to be alert. Competition is so fierce and social media so everywhere that most dealers would not want their name talked about poorly on this web site or any other.

I had a problem getting some attachments on special car I had purchased. The dealer was trying so hard to get the parts. The owner of that dealership called me to tell me he was getting personally involved. He has 6 dealerships and it was not even their fault,.

On another car I complained with out mentioning the dealerships name on this forum. I had two owners of different dealerships for those cars call me to see if it was their business.

This is why we all have to be careful on what we write. Personally I think this forum has been very good.

    best

That's the good news. The engines are really robust considering the power output and high rev limits. You have to give them that.

I read that a new gearbox is $93K. I can only imagine what an engine would cost.

Ferrari (and most extreme high end manufacturers) intentionally price major replacement parts unaffordably high compared to buying a new vehicle as it helps to drive sales and retain secondary market values.

Ferrari doesnt want to be in the replacement parts business.

    I know what it is.
I was just making fun of the OP
Last person I heard use that term was 21 and lived at home and begrudged anyone who had anything. You too can have a dealership and run it the way you want, if you want to work hard and take a risk. If I think a dealership is not fair or run properly, I use another.
I have been pleased with 95% of the dealerships I have ever used and would never use that term in general.

+1 -- Who ever asks to be paid less for their work? How do you create "exclusivity"? If everyone could afford it, would it mean as much? I am sure someone would say they would like everyone to own a Ferrari, I just have not met him yet (lol). Best

This is not a troll first of all haha. Also when I said stealer ship I just meant they charge you an arm and a leg for parts and service.

Really? (Totally agree on 458 motors btw) but I don't recall E92 motors being that much.
