I previously posted about searching for my first Ferrari, my dream car: a 458. I know the car market is hot and prices seem to be inflated. My question is do you feel the current 458 market will remain where it is for the foreseeable future, or where there be a correction shortly?

I’m currently looking at an ultra low mileage (under 2,000) 458 but would be paying sticker price for the car. Initially, I was looking for a car with some miles, and my budget was considerably lower. This is an extremely large purchase for me and I'm trying to make the best decision in my case; would love to hear thoughts and feedback if you think the market will be generally stable, or if there will be a decline over the next 6 months. Thanks again for helping a newbie :)

Simple. Find a car/spec you absolutely love. You won't care about price now, and you'll never think about what it's worth again in future as you'll never sell it.

I splurged on my 458 (granted I got a great deal still) but you won't regret it. I doubt prices will decline much, and agreed - I'm never selling mine!

There is no prediction as to future value of the 458. We are in turbulent times with major instability to currency around the globe. I love my 15 458. It is my 6th Ferrari. It is dependable, it is the last 8 non turbo, last design by Pinn., etc. As such it has some collectability status. Having collected cars for some time( Past Ferrari's were- financial winners were my 246 Dino- 84 BBI Boxer sold at the high of the Japan's (late 80's market,) slight uptick 77 308, losers were 88 Testa, 03 F1 Modena. Personally I would not be looking for a non used car (2000 miles). I would look for a low mile 458 (5,000-12,000) non altered car equipped as close to your must have options. Reason-they have at least been exercised a bit, possibly some little service issue, had their yearly ck x 7after some miles etc. Remember keeping forever is a Rare Occurrence. Eg.--I just Sold my Immaculate 1965 Porsche 356C Which I vowed would be Forever!

I paid 330k in for my 488 in May. I don't regret it one bit. Life is short with tons of uncertainties. Live your life.

I bought my 2014 458 Spider in 2019 and never have regretted it for a second. As many have said - and I will repeat/echo - Don't buy the car (or any modern "normal" production car for that matter) as an investment and don't buy one or worry about the future values. IMHO 458s will always be a highly-valued Ferrari model for the known reasons - last NA mid-engine Ferrari and last mid-engine Ferrari designed by Pininfarina. Not to mention that they are absolutely phenomenal to drive and own and achingly beautiful from any angle, dependable and reasonable (by Ferrari standards) from an ownership cost/maintenance standpoint.

If you bought one "right" you are now the benefactor of the heightened values but who cares unless you plan to sell. If you bought one at an inflated price for the privilege of owning one the you might take a hit as things normalize - but who cares - you are/were able to obtain a 458 so if you paid a bit more it is/was well worth it.

The good news is while both Italia's and Spiders are very sought after right now and some have ridiculously high prices, there are enough of them around that you can find one at a spec you like with solid history and properly cared for (but driven!) at a reasonable price - albeit a bit inflated but reasonable.

Find one / check it out for history / buy it / drive it / maintain it / enjoy it. Any appreciation will help offset maintenance/ownership costs - any depreciation will be offset by the joy of owning one of Ferrari's finest.

    Cheers :)

I bought my fully loaded red tan 7k Spider March 01 for 212. It’s worth a 100k more now. I watch prices every week. There seems to be no end in sight. And have you seen or driven a 296? Not sure anything is going to knock the 458 off it’s perch. And yes get one with some miles on it.

I’ve never had the opportunity to drive a 296, but have been in love with the 458 since it’s inception. As these cars evolve, there is always improvements in certain areas, but my heart always went back to the 458. Sometimes you just know lol.

I did have the opportunity to drive a 296 and it is fantastic!! But would not trade my 458 Spider for one- even if flat trade.

I think the floor in the 458 market was about 2018ish. You can go to hagerty and pay for the premium and see the actual data if you want.

If you want a <2000 miles car there will be two negatives to it. 1) you're paying a huge premium $ wise. 2) you may be unwilling to put more miles on it due to it losing value with each mile you drive and 3) it might have some underlying issues that have not expressed itself due to the low usage.

458 price is one of the hardest to predict moving forward. It is the best car I've ever owned, period, and I'm a Porsche guy through and through. Find your perfect spec and get the best deal you can on it, and don't look back. you WILL NOT regret it.

I agree with this 100%. While I understand the appeal of a low miles car, I personally would rather have a car that's been driven and had all the kinks worked out. Plus like you said, you're usually paying a steep premium for a low mileage car.

I just paid a kings Ransom for a 2015 with 426 miles on the clock, a real unicorn.

Whether it appreciates or not I'm not too concerned as I plan on keeping it forever.

just can't see them going down as they have their place in history now and the 296/sf90 styling is just way off imo as well as newer cars going hybrid to EV

The prices of what cars are actually selling for has softened a bit so I think you'll be OK there but would advise against getting a car with too low of miles. Cars are meant to be driven and if they sit too much, problems can start to crop up. Modern Ferrari's are pretty bulletproof and don't require super high maintenance like an engine out service and such. Most importantly, you'll always be stressed to put miles on the car. Get one with reasonable miles that has been well maintained (easy with modern Ferrari maintenance offers) and checks out mechanically and simply enjoy it. I just bought a 2011 458 (with 12K miles) because I wanted one of the early cars that makes the amazing sounds and I think there is some value to the fact it is the last of the naturally aspirated V-8's.

Drive it, enjoy it and create some great memories with it!

You hit the nail on the head. The main reason why I’m purchasing the car (besides the fact I love it) is to make memories with my son. Day trips through the roads of the Blue Mountains and things like that. I want specific options and color combo, also a car with no scratches and minimum wear. Obviously the ultra low mileage cars tend to show better. It wasn’t my initial intention to get one with super low miles, rather in 10-15k range. I’m not is a rush where I need to buy one today, but have dreamt of owning a Ferrari ever since I was a kid watching Miami Vice. I’ll certainly keep everyone posted and really appreciate the insight and responses.

Almost no cars do better by sitting.
My wife’s 560 SL is never driven. And it never runs either. Congrats to her lol!
