    Unbelievable!

1/4 miles, 0-60 mph and their test track time is nuts, just nuts. Forza Ferrari!

PS. It was only 1/10th of a second slower than Enzo around their test track. Technology does wonders...

0-60 times are always a lot quicker with AWD with launch control. What really counts these days would be 60 and up, 80 and up and 100 and up to be a fair run... IMHO...

0-130 is 11 flat, yet the quarter mile time is 11.2 at 128.8. Hmmm...

Well I'm sure the Porsche 997 ttS is pretty much faster at all speeds, in a straight line at least

It's faster almost exclusively in the 0-60. After that the 458 demonstrates faster accel. Check out the AMS test and quottroroute tests. In the staring kilometre the 458 was more then 2 seconds faster then the 911T-S

I'm sure we'll see comparison tests in car mags soon between the 458, the Porsche Turbo, and probably a Gallardo. If they test them on a road course and not solely on straight line acceleration, we should see some very interesting results, but I think this EVO Channel video says it all, i.e., the 458 is the future:

I have to say that the Bedford time is just insane. Basically as fast as Caterham R500. This is hard to believe.

Maybe not on the track, but in real life conditions the 997 TTS is faster indeed. ;)

This same observation was made on another forum. I provided this possible explanation: I believe the quarter mile trap speed is measured over the last 60 feet or so, calculated by how quickly the car covers that final distance. The car is actually traveling faster when it crosses the finish line in 11.2 seconds. At that point, the 458 may be going 132 mph (or whatever).

Well... Not because I own a 458, in my opinion and according to many tests I've seen, 458 is faster than the TT-S.

I drove both cars, too. Of course, off the line TT-S is faster because of turbo-torque (minimal turbo lag), AWD and launch control.

But after 60MPH, 458 will take over and by 150MPH, it will be about 3~4 cars ahead.

By the way, I'm a big fan of the TT-S as well so NO I'm not inclined towards the 458.

When it comes to direct comparison, I'm probably one of the most fair guys out there. I owned many different cars so to me car is a car. I just try to be as optimistic as possible when it comes to speed.... so I think I'm right on this one...

I personally wouldn't grumble over 2 tenths. But the Bedford time is immense..... a full Second quicker than an LP670 SV WOW!!

Well, I own both and I can tell you the TTS is the quicker car. ;)

Maybe not on the track, as said above, but in everyday use the Porsche wins.

Hypothetical question to you, Rossi: Let's say that you have to make a choice as to which car to keep - not a matter of dollar value, just that circumstances only permit you to own a single car - which of your two cars would you keep? The 458 or the 911?

Difficult. Depends on what you need: a perfect sports car with stealth looks which you can use every day or a near-to-perfect sportscar which is very flashy no matter how discreet you drive it, which could be used daily as well, but what you probably wouldn't do.

For me the choice would be clear: Turbo S. This car can do everything the Italia does, but better. It's better built, it's far more practical, it's faster. But my choice is highly subjective of course.

The problem of the Italia may be, that it is a Ferrari that wants to be a Porsche - to a certain extent. I never thought I would say this about a Ferrari BTW, but currently this is my opinion.

You own TT-S, too? Have you actually raced both cars side by side, say from 70 or 80MPH on third gear up to about 180MPH? You should. How you feel when you drive it actually is quite deceptive. I have owned many many different cars. I usually own about 4~5 cars at a time and I change every 9~18 months max. I also have my business partner that owns 3~4 cars at a time and same as me, he changes every few months like me. So, we had raced two cars (my cars against his cars one by one and my car against my car and his car against his car and so on) for so many times and believe me we are VERY objective when it comes to speed. Every time we do the tests, we change drivers, too in case there could be subjective ways of thinking. But what surprises us all the time is that you can NEVER tell which one is faster without racing each other side by side. We also test several ways each time we test the two cars. From dead stop, rolling at 5 AND 10MPH at first gear. 30~35 MPH roll from first gear, 45~55MPH from second gear, 60~70MPH from third gear and 85~95 from fourth gear. I would say we are even more detailed than Car & Driver. We consider all circumstances. Temperature, altitude, engine and transmission characteristics and so forth. (They are mostly on Youtube but I won't say which ones since there are law enforcers on car forums, too, so I would NOT say anything more detailed) ;-) Haha...

Oh, we also have other friends that joined our team just a few months ago. Nowadays, we have a team with about 6 cameras, walkie-talkies in all cars and a car for just watching for law enforcers.

Anyway, after so many of these side by side comparison tests, our conclusion was that WITHOUT actually running side by side NOBODY can say something is faster than the other one.

When I said 458 was faster than the TT-S, I said I "THINK" or "it should be faster". I didn't say "IT IS". I can't say it because we haven't tested the two cars side by side. So, you really should not say TT-S is faster than the 458 because I really doubt you do the same testing we do. Hehe...

Tell you what... Let's do a run IF you live nearby me. How is that? We do about 4~5 tests. Dead stop, rolling at 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. We can have all the camera team and it will be quite interesting... and SAFE. PM me if interested. I am also VERY interested in doing it since I am also going to buy the TT-S if it's indeed faster than the 458. ;-)

One additional small difference between these cars is that every 458 owner can have a Turbo S (if he chooses) but not every Porsche owner can have the Ferrari.
On another note,It's really hard to get excited by ANY new 911 iteration,no matter how accomplished and how capable, that design is just way too old and rehashed too many times....

u managed to sum up the true real value of a 911!!!

the 360 becomes a pos when the 430 came out and now it has become **** because of the 458.
    not so with 911s.

Yeah, if you don't mind the fact that the styling of the 911 goes back to the Eisenhower administration.
