I searched online for this and really didn't see anything. Is this rear carbon piece available anywhere? It looks like it just slips on over the bumper.[IMG] I want this on my red 458 (car on left)

The part is available through Ferrari, but I believe it entails
    replacing the whole back bumper.

I think the bumper + CF piece is like $10 grand --plus installation and painting.

Could be, I think the cf piece is part of the bumper and cannot be purchased separately,
dealer's parts dept. could have the answers..

I have looked into retrofitting this option. The costs run away very quickly.
You need to buy the carbon section (#84234800) and a new lower bumper assembly. There are about 3-4 versions of the lower assembly depending on the various sensor options plus there are EU and Non-EU versions. Then painting and fitting.

I understand Carbonio investigated the possibility of producing a thin carbon laminate to retrofit over the top of the existing panel. They abandoned the project due to lack of interest. I was surprised as I think there would be significant interest in this.

Perhaps we need a new thread ?

We had our rear wrapped in satin black - not exactly the same look but close enough and $400

The carbon fiber upper bumper is a separate part from the lower bumper. I don't believe there's an after market supplier because the lower bumper part still has to be sourced OEM from Ferrari. Both parts runs about $11,000 plus 3-4 hours of labor. Depending on the color of the lower bumper and assuming it's a standard Rosso Corsa, painting it by a certified body shop will cost about $2,000. When evil taxes are added, the project will cost about $14,000. In short, that little piece of CF upper trim is damn expensive! If you go ahead with it, I'd recommend the OEM titanium mesh grills around the lights because they are in grey 'carbon looking' color and will bring out the CF part much better. $800 each, OEM.

As a comparison in value...For less than $14,000 with after market parts, you can get the entire engine bay, air box, rare diffuser, frog lamp housing all in matching CF.

A lesser alternative is to wrap the upper part in vinyl CF, about $300 but it will never look like the real thing even with the best CF-looking vinyl (e.g., 3M). Ferrari's 1x 3K CF is difficult to match.

Here it is on my 458. I love it but wouldn't pay for it as retrofit.

I had it on my car as well and it's stunning, the only way to go. The problem is that it's not an overlay, it's flush with the bumper therefore you need to swap out the bumper as well as get the carbon insert. I cannot imagine it would be worth the work.

This is correct we looked into this project and heard nothing but crickets. This was a bit of a surprise as normally we get some interest and a take up rate of about 20% of those who say 'I'm in' once the product is ready.

From a manufacturing standpoint it is a slightly challenging piece to make properly but the biggest issue is that once bonded on it cannot be removed without destroying the piece. This goes against our general mandate of making parts that are totally removable and reversible. Of course the OEM option is EXTREMELY expensive to do but the reality is that regardless of what Ferrari charges they are really in the drivers seat when it comes to the options out there as owners gravitate to OEM parts regardless of better or less expensive aftermarket options.

From an economic standpoint the point was well raised that you can do the entire engine bay of the 458 including the airboxes with one of our 'Carbon Zone' engine bay packages for less than $4K which is a much bigger bang for your buck than just the rear strip on the bumper for close to 4 Times the money installed!

BTW here is a shameless link to our carbon zone for anyone interested. In stock and ready to ship :)

    Carbonio,

I had hoped you would come in on this thread. For a Carbon laminate overlay panel I could see that you would loose it on the each side in the grills. Along the centre section it is matter of the thickness and the finishing to get a good look. A wrap will also have the same issue.

How many pre-orders would you need to re-visit the project ?

Agreed the carbon panel would be limited to the center section and cannot really be practically extended to the very ends the way the factory one is. That said the visual difference would be negligible and you would really need two cars side by side to notice the difference.

As far as re-visiting the project regrettably that ship has sailed. We are very busy working on new opportunities and we would need north of 50 pre-paid orders to even consider thinking about looking at it again. At those numbers the project might as well be dead. Sorry but I want to be totally up front and realistic.
