Thinking if trading up from my 14 Cali to a 458 Spider. Will use it every day. Depreciation aside, any experience from older 458 owners enjoying this gem daily

Thinking of doing same, but I am currently in a 911 turbo. How is reliability? Visits to the dealer outside of scheduled maintenance? How many miles total on your vehicle at moment?

Use mine also a lot.. lots of attention questions and compliments... Always gracious and acknowledge those who give them... people love to take cell phone pics of the car...
Put in cruse control or get one with it to avoid Mr Police...Park in safe places... some Aholes are vindictive and jealous One day came out of a restaurant and someone had spit on the car.. so think about where you will leave it when parked.
make sure you put a front Bra on it. Front lift is also useful.

    If you do it,
    its a joy!

I know a couple guys in Lake Tahoe that daily their 458's all summer. Sometimes back and forth to San Francisco. Neither have any problems at all. On the other hand, I had my F430 out there and had issues frequently.

I also not aware of any cronic problem with the 458, daily drived or not. Youth-related problems have been corrected for good. Issues with the F430's headers are well known. Headers become wear and tear material, like tires or brake pads.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Even the speciale and aperta work well as daily drivers. I keep my aperta in NZ for driving holidays in 25 days of driving since I took delivery in mid-February, I've done 5,300km. This is both city and open road driving from place to place - no issues at all. I'm careful where I park but that's about it. Great cars - so don't be afraid to drive them.

I use my 458 Spider daily, and have had no issues at all. My view is "why have a car that gives so much pleasure and then leave it in your garage?". Secondly, when Ferrari launched the 458 Spider, it predicted that most owners would drive it daily.

For those who can afford it, I think you can daily it for a few years, maybe 20K or 30K miles or so. After that I would think maintenance and repairs might get oppressive or inconvenient or both.

Not aware of people who daily these things beyond that - maybe someone here has and can post their experiences.

why 20 to 30k? how wld things get materially more expensive at 50k? I wld say you can drive it daily up until the brakes need replacing.

I think that's right. No frequent clutch replacement, no timing belts to change, and unless you track the car, the brakes should last well past that. You have to think ahead to where you will park it and anticipate steep driveways that are beyond the limits of the front end lifter, and you're not going to be able to haul sheets of plywood around (but 2x4s fit into the sky with the roof open!), but if you don't mind the depreciation, do it!

I will be 60 in April. No problems getting in and out.

Door sills are not big like a Lotus or McLaren 650s etc which are much more difficult.

If you can get in a 911 with no problems then you can get in a 458.
I also do 100 burpees a day 365/7 so don't know if that helps at all.

Exactly. As long as routine maintenance (brakes, oil, etc.) are kept up with, there is no reason to be weary of driving them no matter the mileage. Clutch life would be the only thing to check on from time to time, but that's expected from a wear item.

I was talking to an exotic car rental owner the other day that is a friend of mine.

They have a business where you rent the exotic and drive it around town or wherever for 4-6 hours depending on the package which these 2 are most of their business.

You do not take it on a track, you do not ride in a group, and no one goes with you.

I was interested because this emulates my driving and would be worse case scenario because a ton of newbies would be driving the car.

I do not track my car so do not know how different the results would be if this was a 'track only' type of place.

He said the Huracan's and 458's have been virtually trouble free and he even has one 458 with 80,000 miles on it.

He said he has the most problems with the 650s McLaren's that he had but he now has 570 s' but is too early to tell.

He also has been impressed with his BMW I8's for being maintenance free pretty much.

He has a Huracan with 60,000 miles on it also.

Does not have any 488's yet.

I put 44k km on my cali ('12) in 18 months. 18k km in 458 spider('14) in around 16 months. And now around 10k in 18 months on my 458 speciale ('15)... zero problems on all of them other than one battery replacement on cali. Planning on buying a 488 spider to be used daily for around 20k km a year, while preserving some mileage on the speciale, though as a car that too I can happily handle on a daily basis.... as for people attention, we don't have that 'problem' in dubai, too many sports cars ppl are used to seeing

if you live in los angeles... the 458 blends in wont get any attention unless you go to the touristy areas (rodeo) so its very easy to get away with daily driving.
