Maybe it is just me but I can't seem to get cool air in my 458. Car has about 1800 miles and it has not been warm enough to use a/c yet. Tried to cut in on today. Blower was working, pressed compressor button which I thought would bring on colder air but air is basically ambient. Thoughts? Thx
I had what sounds like the same issue. My car had about 3500 miles on it when the A/C quite working. I took it in and the dealership said that they just had a 458 with a leaking valve in the compressor. Mine turned out to be the same thing. It took them a couple days to get the part and fix it. So far I have had no more issues with it.
I have similar problems. I'll turn the dial to the coldest setting - but ac off. I just want cool outside air. Yet hot air continues to blow. Any ideas?
Does your AC work when it is selected on? If the AC doesn't blow cold air on the coldest setting then could still be the same issue. I tried to blow outside air, with no AC on and it seemed to just blow warm air no matter what I did. Take it in and have it checked out. I sort of remember the service guy telling me that Ferrari got a batch of bad A/C seals from this one particular source.......but then again, I am old and my memory plays tricks on me, so maybe I just dreamed that part of it
I don't know if this is related, but it is easy enough for anybody to check. When you open the front hood of your 458 you will see a white cabin air filter which is located at the top left of the luggage compartment. I replaced my filter last weekend and noticed that the factory had installed it incorrectly. There are arrows indicating airflow on the side of the filter. The arrows should be facing down, which means air is flowing freely in to the car. Well mine was installed by the factory with the arrows up or rather airflow was supposedly coming out of the car this somewhat restricted airflow as it pulled air in to the car. This is incorrect and may be the cause of my recent AC problem. It may have caused the AC to work to hard against the filter flow especially as the filter got progressively dirty and maybe that is what caused my AC to fail. It is easy to check, just takes 5 seconds. Next time you have your front hood open or boot for some of you, just pinch the white filter and pull it out of the vent opening. Check the airlfow arrows they should be pointing down, if they are pointing up, you have the same install error as I did. Also if the filter is dirty on the outside face you can replace it for relatively cheap insurance. When you are done simply push the filter in to the vent opening and slide it back in to place, it is simply a light press fit. There is nothing to loosen, no screws, no tools nothing to it, litterally takes a few seconds and you are done.
Any possibility -- a longshot -- is that your thermostatically controlled switch has shut off the compressor because the coolant is too hot. Some cars have this set up so as to avoid placing additional heat load if the coolant is hot.
