I need to have my shocks rebuilt, what’s the most cost effective way to get this done? Is there anyone in Australia that can do it?
If not, as I suspect, is it cheaper to use Bilstein UK or Deltavee USA?

Delta V. I’m in Brisbane. I sent my fronts to Bilstein in Sydney to be rebuilt, they said they couldn’t do the rears. I sent the rears to DV. It was almost as expensive to have the fronts done as the total cost of the rears. (Rebuild, shipping, etc). DV do a superior job with their own seals etc for the shocks. You’ll only have to do them once as they don’t use the crappy genuine seals etc. This was 5 years and 45k klms ago.

Apparently DV are non responsive these days and inundated with work. Maybe check lead times with them before sending. Our weak dollar will make the cost much higher too.

I had a set of F355 shocks fully rebuilt including new seals, oil and shafts for about $3500 via bilstein in Sydney. The Uk has some very cheap rebuilds but not sure who to use.

The issue is the top seals as the shocks are effectively a low pressure hydraulic actuator with damping.
From my understanding Delta V machine the top off, manufacture a new end plate to accept a new seal, that I would hazard a guess comes from a hydraulic actuator that has backup Teflon support rings if talk to a hydraulic shop not shock place.

It's a long shot but ring Bill at Penske Racing Shocks in Adelaide 0418 835 230

If he can't do them, he will probably know someone who can.

I believe that is the case Graeme. Once they have modified/rebuilt them, they are apparently good for life. Time will tell.

Hmm. They are heavily involved in racing, so during racing season they are pretty hard to get a hold of.
Also, with the current Covid situation, they may well be closed?

There are multiple threads and posts regarding the lack of response from Delta Vee, especially in the 355 sub forum. I’m sure they are the best out there but the feedback I have read online hasn’t been indicative that a fast turnaround is expected. I had the shocks rebuilt and before and after Dyno results with the dampers matched to springs with a 10 day turnaround and local.

Try Heasemans on the Princess highway in St Peters Sydney. They will point you in the right direction.

Heasman Steering is Bilstein/Polyair one does the alignment the other sells and services shocks under the same roof, they rebuilt the 355 shocks for me.

I thought it was pretty clear who I used? Bilstein or as everyone else calls it Heasman Steering. They are under the same roof, in St Peters, Sydney. The shocks on a F355 are made by bilstein and they use OEM parts to rebuild them.

Strange as they are made by Bilstein too. I know they are self leveling so maybe that’s the difference. Apparently Bilstein in many countries are no longer servicing dampers even on the F355 due to availability of parts.

They were the guys who did my fronts. They wouldn’t do the rears back then. If I recall correctly, they offered to send the rears to Europe for me and get them done there.
