456 M Does anyone know .. A) how many 456M have been produced in total (1998-2003)? -how many of them with manual gearshift? B) Can anyone tell me how many 456M have been produced in the last production year 2003? -how many of them with manual gearshift? Thanks!!
https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/ferrari-road-car-models-and-production-numbers.196388/ 456M GT and GTA Production started: 1998. Production ended: 2003. Total production: 1,271, 631 auto; 171 RHD, 139 auto. First serial number: 111372(?). Last serial number: 133044(?). Use the search function. Tons of threads with this question.
RoBert, No sure where you are from but do your questions relate to full production for all markets or are you primarily interested in the US market? Absolute numbers are quite hard to come by as Ferrari doesn't reveal all their production allocations and they send different mixes of spec to different markets as one would expect. During the time of 456M production, mostly GTAs came to the US. Best estimate for total number of manual 456Ms that came to America is ~93. This number is one in great contention between long time posters who are very knowledgeable ....some say 40ish, others a much higher number up to half the total number of 456Ms exported to the US. Using the 93 number, the average number of manuals would be about 18-19 cars per year but it is known that the number tapered off in the later years. Best guess is that for the 2003 MY, perhaps 12-15 456M Manuals came to the US. If I seem to be estimating and waffling around on this, it is because it is the best info I have been able to scrape together. My car is a '03 456M Manual. Build number (much more important in figuring out production order in the Ferrari factory than Serial number) would seem to indicate that my car may be the 3rd from last 456M built. (Or not....). Yours is a question with at best a fuzzy answer but I'd be happy to share what I know. As was already mentioned, there are plenty of posts here addressing the topic and the search function is your friend. Happy hunting.
I've never even seen an '02/'03 456M for sale, much less in person. And a manual! Your car is worth a fortune.
And another poster noted most of the 456Ms he knew of we're not well optioned. Mine is in TdF blue, shields, silver painted calipers to match the silver wheels, Daytona seats in tan with the inserts, dash, and steering wheel in blue. I also really like the Rosso Barchetta of the car that Goodings has listed. Darker colors seem to suit the body style best IMHO. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
took me a cple years to find a clean 03 456M. Bought it with 3500 miles in TDF blue with no shields as i dont like shields on my 2+2. And consistent with my other 2+2s i actually wanted an auto. Aside from the shields i think my car has most of the options that were available.
Yes, that was me. Every manual 456M I've ever seen has been a stripper. That's an amazing spec! My 456M was one of only 15 imported into North America that was Rosso Corsa. It had red calipers, shields, and a tan Daytona interior. I would have kept it for the rest of my life if it was a manual! I'm in the initial stages of shopping for a 612, which will be a good touring car with the F1/a, but I might go for the right manual (Or have an F1/a converted to manual). My 360 is one of only 10 or 11 in the US with a factory sunroof, and it's a manual, so that's mine until I die. If you ever decide to sell your car, I would be glad to make an outrageous offer for it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm flattered, sir. She is hibernating now as it is a mite too cold, icy, and salty here in New Hampshire for her taste! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
call me crazy again, but on these 2+2s which naturally drive bigger, does the stick shift really enhance anything? If i want to drive stick i want to own a 355/360/430. when it comes to these GTs i really prefer automatic. my car has the daytona seats with inserts. Sticker price was 238k. what were other options available aside from shields and colored calipers?
Image Unavailable, Please Login Mine was 237K without inserts, so I now know how much that option was! You have everything but the colored piping on the seats. Remember that the automatic was extra! The 456/456M is built on the same chassis as the 550/575M, so a manual 456 would be similar to a 550 (All 550's are manuals). I had mine on Circuit of the Americas and it was a blast. My driving instructor must have said several times, "I can't believe how neutral this car is!" I would love to try one with a manual.
on the window sticker the inserts dont even come up as an option. $2528 for the daytona seats Image Unavailable, Please Login
Beautiful cabin! The inserts and piping are on the build sheet. The sticker can only hold so much info.
The car is indeed bigger yet when you're in it, it does seem to wrap around you and feel smaller than it is. My Cayman S fits like a glove where the 456M is a well tailored suit. As for the manual, I drove a couple of autos when I was shopping and there was nothing objectionable about them in the least. Clearly a heck of a lot more convenient in traffic and just as satisfying when cruising. But the manual shines on the back roads and the twisty bits where torque control is the most fun. I enjoy being that engaged in the power/torque application, weight balance, etc. I was on the verge of buying a gray/black auto when I found the manual in a private collection and couldn't resist. I'm glad I didn't but the auto would have been just as good in it's slightly different ways. Sticker was similar to the $237 previously cited and the car, built in March of '03 didn't actually sell until spring of '05 (to a Dentist in Cleveland). She has traveled a bit since then...Boston/Florida snowbird, Seattle, Long Island, and now New Hampshire. I think she will be here a while!! +1 From my original literature, “Carrozzeria Scaglietti”options included luggage, Daytona seats, shields, colored calipers, colored dash and steering wheel, and the dedication plate. It specifically mentions further customization is possible, with their approval, via the Atelier program. Factory records indicate my M GTA came with Shields, Aluminum calipers, and the Dedication Plate on the dash.
Yep thats what it is. I have it. I shld know the answer to this but can a build sheet be attained for a 2003? Ive also never been able to figure out which luggage came with a 456m gta? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have the dedication plate but if there was ever luggage with the car, it is long gone. Best I know, the luggage was Schedoni with slightly different pieces for the manual and the auto due to the difference in the center well of the trunk Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
No, the dedication plate was different from the standard world champion plaques. It was a plaque that was custom engraved with whatever the customer sent to Ferrari, often the original owner's name/signature. I posted images of all the 456M Scaglietti options somewhere in here.
Correct Gentlemen. However, I forgot the “Customer plate”, a small silver plate, mounted on the driver side dash, and engraved with the owners name. I mis-spoke, since mine is a 99, and the dedication plates did not exist yet, mine has the Customer Plate. The luggage pieces were all the same, they just omitted one piece with the GTA. I think Taz posted a picture of them. Oh yeah, and there was the Schumacher edition, which seems like an option in its own right. George, you should be able to get the build sheet from a dealer.
I just checked the official 456M press kit and it seems I missed a few: Car phone Space saver spare Battery charger
Minor detail, but the spares were not offered with the automatic because there wasn't enough room in the trunk. Not sure how they got around that in countries like Australia, which mandate a spare tire.
ok guess i dont have a plate then! i have whatever is under the passenger vent that you can sort of see in the pic glad i dont have the phone! does the luggage say "456M GTA" for an automatic?
also kind of weird they dont show black calipers as an option as my car has them https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/456m-scaglietti-options-1.483483/
