It actually appears to me to be extremely clever, almost combining photography(in the foreground part)with traditional painting in the background.

    Lovely,Alastair,thanx for sharing

    Big few days coming up
drive from sunny Scotland down to London, car is the best its ever looked not perfect but not bad after my really enjoyable 26000 miles and onwards to the auction on Saturday. If no sale then back up the road but certainly the wheels have been set in motion.
    Regards
    Alastair

Have you painted the 400? I'm sure a few of us would buy a print.

yes it would be very fitting to do a painting of the 400 why not lets see.

I have arrived at Ascot after a supreme blast down from Scotland glorious weather, car seems to be working ok! I thought I was doing 130mph at 5500 revs!

I met a potential buyer young gent who is a real enthusiast of these cars, a twenty year old that understands these cars is rare, during the conversation he touched on the carburetted idiosyncratic but unique sound the popping of unburnt fuel on decelaration the wale sound which is impossible to buy, his attraction for the 400 is not the refined its the raw nature that's of interest.

What a car these 400s are absolutely fabulous,
    Regards
    Alastair

    Alastair - that's awesome!
Wonderful cars and hard to part with, we're just lucky to be custodians (not owners!)
Sounds like a great run, all the best for Saturday.

    Thanks Gents
Nick spot on, just custodians, good stories the auctioneers were in disbelief that I had actually driven the car all the way from Scotland! I guess they aren't used to people that own a 40 year old car and drive it every day rain or shine.

There are lots of great cars at the auction Masertati Khamsin, Merak, Aston DB6, Dino etc but I think a lot of them I would be worried about getting to the supermarket in without issues. Never mind continent crushing!

Make sure they include the story of your long distance, trouble free drive in the auction pitch when it comes on the block. That should be a huge selling point and help the price immensely.

Also, being in the company of more exotic or at least more costly cars may well make yours look like the bargain that it is and help drive up the price.

All the best, Alastair! If all goes well, you may be "between Ferraris" for a while but you will always have owned a Ferrari and you are now a part of that car's history.

I will tell the auctioneer, good idea and thanks for the good words. Could still not sell but at least its started the ball rolling will see and post the goings on later cheers.

Aidan its great being beside its younger cousin the 456 your right its a belter of a car very refined I would have one too.

Simon I already own a classic Renault laguna from 2000 and something, very rare I think its one of about 10 million made good for cruising around incognito! It also keeps my mechanical skills in practice replacing window regulators every week.
    All good fun.

    Hello all
    Coys report.
The car didn't sell bidding went to 18K so. Apart from that side of it it was a great experience and the drive down (and back!) was great, met some really interesting folks generally had a lot of fun.

I realize that auctions don't mean that you will sell the car but it definitely has put it on the map. I think that value wise the estimate of between 22k and 28k for a good 400GT was reasonable and if one is prepared to wait privately between 25k to 35k might be attainable.

    regards
    Alastair
