I have found a Ferrari at an auction house. It is either a 365 gt or a 400. I think the year of manufacture is 1976, chassis number begins 19. It has a 12 cylinder 4.3 litre engine. I have the chassis number at hime but not on my. The car is being autioned as the result of a bankrupcy and the documentation is lacking.

The interesting thing about the car is it is a manual not an auto. I would like to know a rough value and if it is worth buying. I am considering bidding on it but the lack of documentation worries me.

The auction is soon and I need to know if I can find out more about this car.

It is in the UK BTW

Are the wheels knock offs or 5 bolt?

    Knock offs are a 365, 5 bolts are 400s.

    thanks for the info

The wheels are knock offs not 5 bolts and from that thread you posted it appears to be a 365.

Some more info is that the bankrupcy was a mechanic. Some guy brings him the car saying its misfiring. Mechanic says "take it to a specialist", owner asks mechanic to sort it out.

Mechanic takes it to Ferrari specialist and it costs £8000 to sort out. When presented with the bill the owner just walks away. Mechanic pays bill takes ownership and then goes bust.

    Is it worth buying ?

Will I be able to sell it on without a service history ?

I have one and can tell you that bringing one back from the dead can be a very expensive proposition. If it has rust, run away.

There are only a handful of nuts that love these cars. As most of us already have one, it's not something that is going to sell quickly if you want to flip it.

But they are great cars once you get a solid example on the road.

    My advice, proceed with caution.

A perfect 400/365 in the UK is worth approx £10-12K, scruffy but MOT'd 365/400 is worth £5-6K,

Anything needing bodywork half that (£3k)

If it needs an exhaust, suspension and bodywork its worth £2k for the running gear

As somebody who has bought sold and serviced / repaired / restored almost a dozen 365/400/412 you really should be really carefull as they can be hugely expensive to put right if work is needed after all it costs as much to rebuild/restore a 400 as it does a 365gtb/4 Daytona one of them will be worth £80-90k when its finished the other £10k! (have a look at the photo in my profile I know what it entails and costs to rebuild a 400 ;) )

Feel free to PM me the details as I may have already seen or heard about the car
