This really pissed me off. I had an early morning flight out of Houston so I stayed at a Hyatt Place up by the airport. I went down to the front desk at 4:05 to check out and found the front door wide open and the front desk unstaffed. I found the office and opened the door; nobody there. Ok, let's go look in the kitchen; nope, nada, nobody. I waited until 4:35am. The entire time the hotel was unsecured, wide open to any thug, and I could have done anything I wanted to the cash drawer, front desk, office, or kitchen.
    Just pisses me off!

I can see this happening at the No-Tell-Motel, but not at a Hyatt. I would certainly complain to them.

That is inexcusable. What would piss me off even more is having to put on a suit and check out of a hotel at 4 AM.

Ya i would not be happy. But no worries for me on that as an IHG member i just walk out in the morning.

I am surprised for sure to see a Hyatt do that...

    Nice watch!

J/K.... Hate that. In Italy last year, had a similar situation occur when I was trying to catch my international flight back to the states... I ended up leaving before anyone showed up.

    Wow

I always wear a suit and tie and my wife always wears a nice dress when we travel. We are always the best dressed people on the plane/train/etc. You'd be amazed how much better we're treated because we dress better. Seriously it is VERY noticeable.
The getting up at 4am was 100% my choice/fault. Because I got up early I was drinking a margarita and enjoying fresh ceviche on the beach by 11am.

Seriously, don't they tell you to leave the room keys on the table in the room???

I always check out as you were trying to do, but after you found no one, I would have left the card access with a note on that desk in your picture!!

    Crazy story, Dave!!

Might be a cash drawer in the restaurant, but I doubt the Front Desk could take cash if you offered it!!

The main reason I was down there was to get a decent cup of coffee and to see if I could catch the shuttle to the airport. Checking out wasn't the big deal. The fact the hotel was wide open with nobody watching who came and went was my concern.

No argument here, I've noticed the same thing. When I'm flying that early I'm all about comfort and don't notice how people are treating me. However, when I travel with my wife, everybody thinks I'm filthy rich because she's so much younger and prettier than me. ;)

For what it's worth I sent a note to the hotel and through Hyatt's website. It has been 6 days and no reply.

My friend owns the Fuselodge at IAH....try there!

Mainly caters to airline staff, but I bet it's a happening place, even at 4AM!

6 days that's crazy. I stayed ONCE in a Dallas hotel last month, (long story) and they bombard me now, with offers!

Some kind of rave was going on, I did have a good time.

Same here. My wife and I have always received excellent service on our flights and gotten comments from flight attendants about how we were dressed. This is especially true in first and business class.

After a few minutes, I would have picked up the desk phone and called Hyatt corporate.

About 2 years ago I stayed an a inn in a small village in Southern England. More like a bed and breakfast. Just a room.

It's actually a pub and it closes at 11. But I had to leave at 5 in the morning.

So the inn keeper GAVE ME THE KEYS to the PUB and told me to lock the door and throw the keys through the mail slot when I left because everyone would be asleep.

Oh, how I wish everyone was as trusting today!
