I have always had a squeaky timing belt(s) when the car is cold since they were changed 2 years ago. However today I noticed that they still squeak even when the engine is warm. This noise used to disappear once the car warmed up and I assumed it was normal as tolerances changed as things warmed up. My question is, Is this normal? Do the 360 belts squeak? If not what is the issue?

Car is a 2000 model 360 6spd. Tensioner bearings were replaced with Hill engineering items at the last belt service approx 2 years ago. Car has only traveled 3500 miles since then.

Advice appreciated as I'm now concerned that maybe I shouldn't be driving the car with this noise. Last belt change was performed at authorised Ferrari dealer.

A squeaky timing belt (and I presume you've taken the back panel off and listened up close) would make me VERY nervous. Suggests a bearing or something contacting the belt. Both cases would not make me very comfortable.

If it's a pulley on the serpentine belt.. meh. timing belt.. I'd look at it.

I am of no use to living organic matter, but here goes: My 308 had squeaky belts for a decade. I finally figured out it was the AC compressor belt, and just sounded like the cam belt. Always went away when it was warm. Caused 24.3 embarrassing moments in my otherwise sublime existence.

+1; Make sure its the cam belts. If cam belts, have a pro check-it-out. Too high risk vs reward.

Thanks guys, it could be the A/C / alternator belt. Its coming from that general area but I have not pinpointed exactly where.

I'll get it booked in and looked at.

last time I pinpointed a belt noise is to do the following:

while the engine is running, sprinkle a little water onto whatever belt you suspected and if that stops the noise, then that's what it is.

    hope this helps

Its shady tree advice, but I like it!

...and if you dont find the noise source, at least your engine will be clean ;)

    Thanks Guy's,
I will actually try this as I can get into the top of the belt area to be able to spray each belt with a little water. I cannot access the serpentine belt very well, but if I spray both timing belts and the noise is still there I assume it has to then be coming from the serpentine belt by a process of elimination.

We used to use hair spray to permanently stop squeaky belts. I have no idea why it works.

    seriously, I wouldn't do that.

I will spray on the serpentine belt, its not that difficult to access....

I would drive it to the last dealer who worked on car and let them tell you what it is.
edit: those tests above sound like a good first step though!
