You have to replace O2 sensors.

But make sure its actually the O2 sensor, who diagnosed it? It could also be the MAFs or even some other more rare/complex issue like fuel pressure, injectors, etc.

O2 sensors are fairly easy to change and reasonably cheap. I recommend getting it diagosed by a F dealer or trusted independent shop. Or if you can find them cheap enough you can just change them, but it would suck if you still failed again.

Is there an independent shop that also does the smog test? That might be a good strategy.

You have 4x LAMBDA FEELER's (Italian translations are funny), 2x front and 2x rear. they are $210 and $140, so total; $700 + s&h + installation. Fairly cheap IMO

They are standard Bosch Lambda probes which can be ordered without the Ferrari mark up.

    The Front Lambda (OEM Part# 182837) is Bosch part# 0 258 007 001.

The Rear Lambda (OEM Part# 180915) is either Bosch part# 0 258 006 064 or 0 258 006 196. I'm yet to find out which of the two it is so if anyone can chime in here and help me out I would be grateful.

    What does it mean exactly?
Did they tried to read the front O2 sensors through OBD2 connector, or did your car failed because of exhaust gases composition?

Was the car batt turned off before (maybe a week before) the emission test? if it did, were you able to drive about 200 miles or so before the emission?

This is the best question asked. It isn't clear whether you are thinking about replacing them yourself or not, but if you are, the error code should allow you to identify specifically which one has failed, and you can replace just that one. There is also a school of thought that if one has failed, the others aren't far behind, and another idea that they should all be replaced every few years anyway because they become less responsive and less accurate with age. BUT, if your immediate objective is to get the car through emissions, replacing one may be sufficient. All this assumes that one oxygen sensor is in fact the whole issue, and not something else or a combination of issues as mentioned above.

I had my cats off yesterday - I can confirm my UK spec 2001 Spider has Bosch 0 258 007 001 sensors up front and 0 258 006 196 to the rear.

All is good they could not find the o2 sensor and failed me on the visual inspection, instead of asking where they are they just failed me. I went back showed them where they were any passed with flying colors. I think just because its a Ferrari they wanted to mess with me.

    Thanks for all the reply's

Wow, I would be super pissed, in fact I am vicariously super pissed. WTF is a visual emissions inspection anyway??

A number of states do routine visual emissions inspections - they are usually checking to make sure that catalytic converters are still installed and that there are not any other visible modifications to emissions systems. I am surprised they would be looking for the physical presence of oxygen sensors unless the check engine light was on or they had reason to think some modifications (installation of test pipes instead of converters, etc.) had been done.

I will concede to drop the subject; I went out to my 430, popped the rear bonnet and the rear O2 sensors were all up in my face. maybe they were blinded by the red heads on your 360. Distracting they are. Glad its resolved and road legal.
