360 headlight difference?

About xenon my understanding is 01 and up got them standard and previous to that were optional. My 01(dec01 build) has xenon.

Show some pics of what you're talking about

 

I thought it was 02 and on had them but your Dec build car is close.

 

Was told headlight washer = HID. Anything else would be option upgrades...

 

In the US, all cars had HIDs. Doesn't matter what year.

 

Not for my 99. Manual says bulbs are halogen.

Regardless of what the manual says, does your car have xenons or halogens?

I had a 99 US car and on the sticker it showed Xenons as standard equipment, just as this sticker shows....

Two possibilities, I suppose, one is that they changed them from being optional to standard at some point during 99, other possibility is that US manual wasn't updated from the Euro version to reflect the standard Xenons.

 

Now I know what the 2 housings look like. My dec 01 build has the new housing.

My 00 has xenon's

 

Here is a better pic. On the newer housing there is hood over the main lamp, kind of like a mini tunnel about 1.5 inch deep

According to my dealer, all US 360's had Xenon (HID) headlights including 99's...mine does.

 

Ah hah I see now! Mine is definitely like the earlier style.

 

In Europe I believe there was a very big recall on the earlier style headlights after some of the earlier design style actually caught fire (!). It was attributed to the sunlight catching them at a particular angle reflecting and acting like a magnifying glass. Bad news indeed.

Going back a good while now ( I think circa 2002) I remember asking if I could take a few sets back from the dealers who where swapping them all out at the time. They where not allowed and as they removed them they had to smash them before putting all the pieces in the waste.

Did this recall not happen in the USA?

 

Ok sort of like circumcised -vs- foreskin...

Thanks Curt. It was funny but i didnt see the thread on Fchat until after I already had the ball rolling. It did make me feel better to see your visual inspection opinion, and I did have Karl do the ppi. Also made me feel better to find out it was in the private collection of pam lambert so it prob wasn't abused to bad but without service records still a risk. You were spot on that Karl feels it is the strongest running 360 he has ever driven. I'm pretty stoked!

Hey Tim I think I/we had it backasswards. The longer hood is the newer light. I guess this will protect the lamp itself from sunlight being collected, reflecting the focused beam causing a fire.
