I would like to change my original eggcrate front bumper grills to the challenge style grills. Does anyone know the best place to buy them? Do I also need the frame in addition to the grill? Thanks,
There are OEM and reproduction peices on eBay. You will be best advised to by the spacer too, or else there will be a gap between the ducts behind the grill. Voicey I'm sure has a write up about it.
At Ricambi America. http://www.ricambiamerica.com/parts_catalogs.php?M=FE&P=&V=diag&I=634 You want 15, 16, 39 and 40. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks. I will order from Ricambi. Do I need to get any of the spacers from Ricambi. If I do, which part #'s? Thanks so much,
Yes you need the shroud otherwise there will be a gap. Prosport sell cheaper copy versions of the grills and shrouds but once shipping is added it may be more expensive. http://www.prosport-ferrari.co.uk/
Others can correct me if I'm wrong but I think the "spacers" others mention are items 39 and 40 in the above diagram. Probably best to call and ask Ricambi when you order rather than just do e-order. FWIW, if you have a built in radar detector (or want one later) it will be easier to fit the receiver(s) behind the standard egg crate grills without the grills interfering with reception. The Challenge mesh grills do look good and keep out more debris, however. If you get these, consider getting the rear Challenge grill, too.
Sparetireless just posted an ad for the front grills under parts: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=4208 Not sure from his posting if he provides spacers or not. The pic shows them, but then the description says that OEM are $600 more than the grills @ $300 - ouch. His grills look very very well made and finished and I'd go for them if they came with their own spacers. I like the fact that he has taken into account the tow hook as well.
I like the front challenge grilles but they seem rare even with cars with a rear challenge grille. A nice touch to add.
Those look pretty good, and the description would convince me to buy theirs instead of OEM. Basically, you get both mesh grills for the price of one OEM. But the pic with the egg crate grill to the right I think shows why you need to "spacers" to make them look right, and in fact, I don't see how you'd mount the mesh grill without them. The egg crate grill is quite deep, so if you mounted the mesh grill back where the egg crate grill attaches, there would be a large gap as mentioned by others. So get the spacers from Ricambi and a pair of these mesh grills. You save about $300.
