I have a 2004 360 Modena with F1 transmission. Very occasionally, I will downshift, usually 4 to 3, and I hear a fairly loud metallic clank. Sounds similar to driving over a loose manhole cover or imagine a tin pie plate you just drove over. The shift itself occurs without any drama, just this very occasional noise. I cannot duplicate this noise on demand. I might drive the car a few days and no incidence of the noise. Only occurs on downshift. I have no other indicators, e.g., warning lights, clutch slippage, etc. I recently had the clutch replaced, but this symptom was present even before the replacement. Any one have an idea what this might be? Steve
Just an update .. It occurred to me that this generally occurs before the engine has reached full operating temp. So, am wondering if simply a backfire?
