Yes I know this has been covered many times. There's a ton of information on the net. After spending too much time researching the subject, I just need a simple answer.
Looking to put a Tubi system on my '99 gated coupe.
Seems like systems available are "non valved".
    1. How much difference does it make, in terms of mid-range torque, if the system is "non-valved"?
    2. Does this result in any interior drone?
    3. Is this set-up obnoxiously loud?
    4. Could I use the factory tips and valving with the Tubi muffler to retain valving?
Looking for a little more sound, however do not want a loss in torque.
Would really appreciate hearing from people that have done this swap..... not theorists who understand the engineering but haven't actually experienced the swap. I understand the design well enough. Thanks.

My 2002 Modena is a three pedal car that had a Tubi on it. Had deeper than stock mellow sound and not extremely loud. ? about change in mid range torque. I replaced the cats with test pipes for a little more sound and then it was VERY loud with significant interior drone from 2500-3000rpm. Obnoxiously loud and I love it but must keep it out of the 2500 to 3000 rpm range to avoid the drone.

Tubi with stock cats has no drone and is not loud. Slightly louder than stock, but stock is too quiet on these cars. I do not believe you can use the stock valves or tips, but I could be wrong. I have never heard of the cars losing torque with a Tubi, but I do understand that some believe the valved exhaust provides backpressure for low end torque response.

Your 99 probably has no pre cats

This makes the Tubi scream not in a good way

The stock tips with valves should fit - I welded the stock valves into the Tubi tips. And it's still a little too loud for a spider so a coupe should be good

I picked up a 2002, gated 360 coupe with Tubi almost two weeks ago.

It is definitely louder than stock, I had a 360 Spider drive behind me this weekend and they told me how much louder my car was when revving. There's drone noise up to around 3000-3500 rpm, but not too bad as it's a coupe and I can put the windows up, but I really love the sound and thus I keep them down almost all the time just to hear her sing.

At 4000 rpm and higher, the droning is gone and it seems to just become a more pronounced volume for the engine scream (not entirely sure how to describe it).

There's some videos on youtube with examples of Tubi, if that helps at all.

So regarding interior drone and is the car too loud, I wouldn't say so, but it depends on where you drive, and how much. If you're constantly driving through tight European village streets, it could come off as a bit obnoxious. Lovely the first few times for the inhabitants, but eventually they'll get tired of it all. And if you do drive, like I did yesterday, for an almost entire day (over 800km's from morning till midnight on twisty mountain roads), your head will be reaching its limits in regards to the droning sound unless you really push her hard in every situation.

But if you do trips in the hour range, I think it's fine.

I cannot comment on the torque as I don't have examples to compare...

I just put a set of Tubi headers and cats on my spider.

I had read many posts that sing their praises. But most simply talk about the added hp and loudness. It is noticeably louder than the stock racing exhaust, and has more snap and pop on downshifts. I can't tell if it has more hp as there's no way to push it in the city. But holy cow, the most amazing difference is in how much faster the car revs! It’s a totally different car now. Also surprising just how heavy the stock system was, they weigh a ton.

Thanks to all for your replies. The YouTube videos are, for the most part, worthless. Listening to some guy rev his motor doesn't tell me anything. I've tried, without success, to find someone her in the area with a Tubi set-up so I can experience it in person. It's the drone that concerns me. And apparently Tubi makes 2 versions..... a regular and a "loud" version..... or at least they used to.
Again, I appreciate the replies. A few years ago I put a Tubi on my 2010 911S. It was awesome in every respect. Before that, I had one on my Cayman. It was TERRIBLE. Cruising speed drone was so bad that I took the thing off the car.

A very good option, IMO, is the Ferrari racing exhaust. Unfortunately, you will have a hard time finding one. There were a bunch of them available a couple of years ago for bargain price, but I don't see any available now.

The good news is that Ferrari racing exhaust is virtually the same silencer as the stock F430 silencer. Several people have converted an used F430 exhaust to fit the 360. Here is a good link that describes the whole process.

    https://aldousvoice.com/2012/11/16/converting-a-ferrari-f430-exhaust-to-fit-a-360/

Once you make that conversion, you will have one of the best sounding systems available and the exhaust has valves for quiet and loud. You can add an exhaust controller to then manually control those valves.

The really good news is that the total cost of this is about 1/3 what you pay for a Tubi system.

I have personal experience with both the F430 system converted for 360 and the racing exhaust. They both sound identical. I currently have the racing exhaust on my 360. I am in Scottsdale and if you want to see it / hear it, let me know.

    Regards,

    Steve

I have a Tubi on my Spider. Not sure what drone some folks write about.
And I just drove 800 miles last weekend and my head was not messed up.
    Love the sound.

Only problem is the first 5 mins on startup on a Sunday morning.

Thanks, Steve. I was talking to Andy over at FMS, and he made the same suggestion. Next time I plan a trip to the Scottsdale area, will see if we can meet.

The VERY loud drone on my Tubi fitted car came along when I deleted the cat and installed a test pipe(straight open pipe). VERY LOUD drone 2500 to 3000rpm.

I have Tubi with test pipes and can confirm it will drone, but the sound is awesome. Here's a short clip of mine from yesterdays Italian day event: https://youtu.be/934XMEguYms

Hi I saw in one of the posts that you welded the stock valves into Tubi tips on your 360. I’m about to do the same thing but was wondering how you kept the tips aligned during the process? Assuming you had to chop valves out and cut and shut into Tubi tips. I will get an exhaust place to do actual welding but would be great if you had any advice. Did you fit a Forza valve controller or leave as factory controlled? Thanks

My euro 360 coupe had stock (no pre-cat) headers, hyperflow 200 cell cats and Tubi. Louder than stock but no drone. (don't delete the cats) No noticeable loss of mid range torque. 360 is not exactly a torque monster. Their performance is revs not torque, the Tubi helps this. Just swapping the stock muffler for the Tubi makes everyone happy. I would do it again in a heartbeat. But the 430/CS/factory racing exhaust is a better option with the valves.

    Be super careful

    The valves look symmetrical

But they are ever so slight in different locations with very slight different angles

The project is worth the agony

    It is quiet at home

I have a Euro 2002 Ferrari 360 Modena (no precats)
When I installed the Tubi, it was LOUD !!!
For the first 2 weeks I enjoyed it...
After that I started having headaches from the drone !!
Especially in city driving, when you are waiting at the traffic light or stuck in traffic...
With the windows down, it was very loud... With windows up, it was worse, the drone...
I used to switch the engine off at traffic lights !!!!!!
After 40 minutes drive, my ears used to ring, I would sweat and have headaches...
Needless to say, after I month I removed it, and installed a used-high mileage stock 360 Exhaust... For some reason, because it was "burnt well" inside, it was louder than my old low mileage OEM 360 exhaust...
I am convinced that the 360 OEM Exhaust with valves is the BEST choice, if you want 1) use the car often , 2) don't want to lose your hearing over the time...
With regards to performance, the Tubi sounded beefier, but I didn't see any gains... The on-off character and bark of the stock 360 is the best feature... (P.S. The best way to improve with sound of OEM 360 is do drive with ASP off !! This way the car spins once in while and you hear the amazing sound of the 360 at wide open throttle !!!)

Now regarding US cars, it's a different story... Maybe the precats quieten the Tubi... Who knows ?

One last point, why is it that cars like mine (manual 360) might be a little quiter at low rpm compared to F1 cars I have heard ??
It seems that the F1 blips the throttle more at low rpm, and will never coast in neutral, so it appears louder ???

I've said it before but I'll say it again. You won't get full performance gains without proper ecu recalibration, I've proven it and forensically analyzed what Bosch did for Ferrari and its essential.

I'm at a loss to how we got here wrt Sports exhausts and decats absolutely ruining drivability of so many 360s...

Ferrari must have known we would all want to fit sports exhausts for the sonics alone yet they offered the (excellent as it is) sport exhaust at a comparatively high price when specified from new so very few cars came with it. Why didn't they just make it the stock system? Particularly since its the only way to get the claimed factory power.

Now most people know that the racing exhaust from the Challenge Stradale despite it being the optional factory system first and foremost on the 360 Modena.

Many people who fitted the sports exhausts from Ferrari when they had that big blow out sale a few years ago even omitted to fit the ecus which came with the kit. Many argued they where not necessary. Absolutely wrong. Ferrari are not in the habit of including thousands of dollars worth of optional parts in a kit for no good reason.

The drivability is actually really quite bad, with dead or flat spots in multiple places and snatchiness. I think most people don't realize or overlook it because the new sound is so intoxicating from a sports system but they actually loose power in at least 3 points in the rev range and only higher up is there a little bit of gain. They should gain power across the entire rev range but the ecus won't play ball as they are not programmed to correctly for a sports system. This means your only gaining marginal performance benefits from your expensive sports system.

Sadly Most exhaust manufacturers have no experience doing calibration necessary to gain power from them so the results really are quite bad when used with factory maps. To then do a cat deletion on top of this puts out the factory programming by an even more extreme margin and probably results in CEL illumination. You may gain some power through less back pressure but you've left so much more on the table due to incorrect calibrations. Infact it's so out of alignment that a good recalibration will yield big gains.

So there you have it.. If your car has a sports system you really should fit either the factory ecus if you can still get hold of them or far cheaper option use Swiss Army Knife tool to tailor mapping to precisely the setup you have which results in even better results. I have your back guys... I'm working on a solution!

As we go forward with future iterations of SAK I will go to dynos with cars fitted with different systems and do calibration specifically for different aftermarket exhausts and cats. Suffice to say in the meantime hang in there, you'll be stunned at the difference! I didn't expect it to have such a profound effect as it does but it really does make a huge difference. Regularly check in on progress of Ferrari Swiss Army Knife tool for more information.

Due to worse quality octane in the fuel in US the timing advance and air fuel ratio mapping on US spec ecus is quite a bit less aggressive than Euro cars. I can go into details but it would bore most people and yes its even true for the Challenge Stradales too, the best cars are Euros from a mapping and performance perspective.
