Are all 360 catalytic converters the same?

As in, will a cat from a 2003 fit a 2000? How about EURO spec versus US spec?

I took off the aftermarket cats on my car when I bought it and fitted MY2000 cats to my 2002, Paid $400 bucks for both rather then $4000 (ebay). Both had about the same mileage.
    Let someone else chime in.

There is a set of Euro spec cats from a 2003 available right now... I have a 2000 360 US spec. My car intermittently throws cat efficiency bank 2 codes, so having a spare set would be worth while if they fit.

They are different (based on part numbers from Ricambi), the 1999 Cat is also different from the 2000 and up Cat for the US, but I don't know what the differences are or what issues you might encounter. Maybe someone else can weigh in.

I'll bet you it has to do with the placement of the precat in the header.. or worse, MORE catalytic material than rest of world cars because of the EPA. Could a platinum thang too...

I guess I'll have my local indy make an official diagnosis on it, and if it needs one or both cats I'll have to source some US used ones, or perhaps go with some cat bypass pipes with 02 spacers or something.

Something funky is up with bank 2, i get cat efficiency code and thermocouple code both on bank 2... i wish the weather was better so i could put some more miles on it. I've cleared each code once now.

The difference is in the Location of the O2 Sensors. On the USA cars there are actually 3 cats per bank. The Primary o2 Sensor is in the headers on USA cars (before the cat in the header) and the post cat O2 is directly after the headers before the last of the 3 cats.

On the Euro car since is has no cats in the headers, the pre cat O2 sensor is on the cat itself and where you see the thermocouplers in the picture below would be where the downstream O2 sensors are located.

The picture below is of a USA cat, the O2 bung you see is for the Post cat sensor.
