I want to write something in this coronavirus stay-at-home season about a job I did.

I've always thought my Nissan's throw out bearing lasts more than 100k miles and counting is the norm for all cars. So ever since 2013, my 360 gets the "do-not-replace TOB" treatment and guess what, except the seals are bad and oils are leaking, its been more than 50k miles(80,000 km) and it is still good.

I used to ask other people to replace the seals for me because I'm not very good at these small jobs.
I got nothing to do since the outbreak in China so I did it myself and notices some details so i was thinking if people could benefit somehow from what I've observed

    1. There are 6 seals on the throw out bearing. here's a pic of 360 TOB and F430 seals. From front of the bearing (front of car, too), let's number them 1,2,3,4,5,6.

In the above photograph, there's one single seal that can't be fitted to a 360 throw out bearing, the 2nd one, part #208014. That is a 430 seal that can't be fitted to a 360 because it is too wide. here's a comparison:

    2. For the 3rd and 4th seals, there is a brown colored o-ring that lays directly to the TOB's grove and the square-cut blue ribben lays on the inside of the o-ring (the blue ribben's diameter is smaller than the o-ring's diameter. The blue ribben doesn't touch the bottom of the TOB's grove.

    3. For the 1st and 6th seal, there is also an o-ring that lays directly to the TOB's grove but the blue ribber's position relative to the o-ring is a little tricky. And both the blue ribben and the o-ring touches the bottom of the TOB's grove. And the blue ribben is NOT square cut. Here is a pic.

    4. For the 2nd and 5th seals , there is no rubber o-ring. Just a blue ribben. see the second picture from top.

    5. The Hill engineering's throw out bearing's 2nd seal grove is for 430 seals. HE doesn't make 360 edition throw out bearings. The throw out bearing itself is interchangeable between 360 and f430 but the 2nd seal has to match the throw out bearing.

Great writeup... but I have a stupid question. What prompted you to do this? Part of a clutch replacement? I didn't think this is something normally even checked except during clutch jobs.

rear main seal leaking too bad, like 1 liter of oil loss per 100km. so gearbox removed and tob seals and rear main seal replaced.

did not replace clutch, did not replace throw out bearing itself, re-surfaced flywheel. clutch is about 40000km and has a thickness of 6.9mm(outer) to 7.5mm inner.

we'll see how long the clutch could go.

My labor is free so treat this as a test rather than a standard car fixing event.
