So... I am curious if the 355 steering wheel mounting is the same in my 1995 456GT as it would be for a 1995 355? I want to try some different steering wheels from Momo and wondering if the Hill Engineering adapter for airbag to non-airbag will work for me.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

@Qavion you are 100% correct... I want the non-airbag wheel... but thank you @ShineKen for offering solutions!

I guess my bigger question then, is would the Momo adapter that Hill Engineering sells to adapt an Airbag 355 to a non-airbag Momo wheel going to work on my 456? I think it should, but Hill Engineering will not confirm and their adapter is 'non-refundable'... I guess if it did not work I could always sell to someone wanting an adapter..... thus I should just buy it and try it....

There, I talked through that whole topic!

If it helps...On my 95 456gt, I just replaced my tan wheel with an identical black wheel which was advertised on ebay as a 355 wheel. It had the same part# and mounting as my original. Note both are airbag wheels, so maybe to triple check if the steering column plastic cowl covers are the same diameter on airbag and non airbag variants...

That is what I really want... but they must be made out of unobtanium as I cannot find one for sale....... I think that is one of the top five OEM steering wheel designs ever.... if I could just find one!

Probably have to come from Europe since there are very few here without airbags. Just passed the 25 year criteria to be eligible for import. Have you tried Eurospares?

Pretty reasonably priced. Too bad they only have the airbag version used.

I think it would work (the adapter).

I used to have a non airbag 456 wheel -and- hub on my F355. Now using the 456 hub with a non airbag 355 wheel.

Looks like the new wheel from eurospares comes with the hub so I would go that route for sure.

The 456 non-airbag wheel really matches the silver trim in the non-M cars well.

Hills 355 steering wheel adapter works perfectly on the 456- so any aftermarket wheel can be loaded.

The following is just my personal take, each his own:

    456GT:
I strongly dislike the 4 spoke boat steering wheel. Just does not fit the car (IMHO), and adds unnecessary steering rotation/length of turning. From memory I think the 4 spoke is a 370 or 375mm which is crazy large, IMHO (someone pls confirm my memory). I would just get a non-airbag adaptor for a 355 as mentioned from Hill, then use an OEM 348/512TR/512M/F50 wheel as all are period correct and OEM. The first 3 also match well w the interior (IMHO). 348 wheels can be had for reasonable w some patience for <$1000. If you are willing to accept some minor wear, <$600. The first 4 are about 350mm-355mm (they are not perfect circle); I don't know how wide the F50 wheel is. The F50 and 512M wheels are $$$$ now so likely would favor a TR or 348. The difference between the wheels is extremely subtle and not worth getting into. I would NOT go narrower than 350mm as it would not fit the charcter of the car at all (I say after I tried running a custom 340mm in a similar 2+2 V12 GT with mixed results).

    456M:
The 550 style (same basic build/steering wheel as the 550) is a nice enough design, but the airbag cover warps w heat/age easily. Personally I would swap for a 575 steering wheel / airbag unit as its a much more robust wheel and IMHO better matches the interior with its silver accents. Particularly if your OEM wheel is in good condition as that way you can keep it looking as pristine as possible. All three (550/456m/575) are around 365mm so from memory. The problem is the 360/575 airbag module can be $$$ and challenging to source. Likewise, it is getting harder and harder to source a 575 wheel (let alone with the correct stitching to match a given interior) as they are much rarer than the same era 360 steering wheel. Patience wins here as with most things with these Italian quirky beasts.
