Yes you are wrong. You have been around here long enough to know exactly what I am talking about.
Or maybe it's a case of selective memory, that happens a lot on here ;)
Oops, I can hear the band waggon rolling in the distance.. .....I'm a scooting. lol

I remember a thread about how long it takes to replace the headers in-situ, but I do not remember anyone ever said it cannot be done.

Mmmm, and I cant remember any one on here saying they remember anyone saying it cant be done. The word I used was "critical "by the way.
A little of that selective memory going on again ey ;)

So the debate is on what people say? Why not replace headers with the engine in the car OR pull the motor and replace the headers, what ever works for you?

Correct. I have been on here a long time. Joe joe was a former owner and had a thread about doing the headers on his car in his driveway. I do not remember anyone being critical of how he was doing this, if anything some of the members were trying to help him. Do a search.

Again, controversial topics are doing engine majors in vs out of the car, types of headers, gold connector kits, but I do not remember members giving others a hard time about header replacement.

Oh right, there has only ever been one thread about manifold swaps over the decade or so hasn't there
Dont know who the hell Joe joe is anyway, I was not talking about him.

That was one example of what came to mind. If you can find other threads that have a different view, please post them. Not sure why this is even an issue.

Again, over the years there have been plenty of threads with contention. ;)

I think it's more about people NOT doing things when the motor is out. Like not bothering to repaint the cam covers (it's actually been called deferred maintenance), or not fixing things that aren't broke, because, you know, while you're in there you should. Or just doing a belt swap w/o degreeing the cams because, well the cam seals aren't leaking so why pull the dam thing apart.

1998 355 81K miles. headers replaced twice pre purchase 2002 with 30K miles, Failed again within a year or two. Ferrari supplied new ones, then went test pipes with the slightly muffled version of the challenge exhaust and still good. Valve guides original.

So it's getting to be time for my manifolds. I see people here talking about how replacing them with the engine in the car is nearly impossible. Am I going to have to drop the engine?

Nobody said it's impossible. It's doable. The glitch is if the manifolds are not well manufactured, then you end up having to wrestle with them harder. Factory manifolds are quite possible to change in situ.

I removed my stock 2.7 manifolds and installed the Tubi with the car on jack stands in the garage. Sure it would have been easier on a hoist but it’s definitely doable.

I have installed many factory and Tubi manifolds. No big deal at all. I won't install anything else so their degree of difficulty makes no difference to me.

    Picture "A" no.

Picture "B". That was a big problem but not "THE" problem. Cracking at the weld at the base of the air injector tubes happens a lot but doesn't cause running issues or engine damage issues the way the collapsed and ruptured tubes do.

1995 F355 Challenge with 21,100 miles. Gutted catalytic converters and Challenge exhaust.

Tubi exhaust manifolds installed two years ago at 17,900 miles to replace the original manifolds, one of which developed a leak.

Original valve guides. Compression and leak down tests performed yearly - results within normal limits since 2012

My car can be considered "over-serviced" as it undergoes oil and filter changes prior to each track event ~ six times yearly.

car is 1997: 2002 with 17k, manifolds and CATs were replaced. 2011 with 29k, CATs were replaced again. 2018 with 38k, manifolds were replaced again, and Fabspeed bypass pipes installed (replacement manifold were boroscoped, and smoke tested; off a 1999 car with 8k on the clock)

can I sleep like a baby now that the CATs are gone? no more manifold issues?
